Live From the Vines: Oldenburg Vineyards
Hosted by Adrian Vanderspuy, Nic van Aarde & Demetri Walters MW Tucked away in a small corner of Stellenbosch, Adrian and Vanessa Vanderspuy are the proud owners of Oldenburg Vineyards, located in the Banghoek Valley. Considered as some of the finest terroir in South Africa, Adrian’s grandmother Dorothy Vanrenen lived at Oldenburg, and in the 1960’s Dorothy and her husband planted their first vineyard. The grapes were sold to a local co-op and never vinified, and in 2002 Adrian commissioned a study to assess the potential for premium quality wines to be made. In 2003, The Vanderspuy’s purchased the farm and four years later the first vintages were produced. A whistle-stop tour of Burgundy with Domaine Jean Fery – Thursday 22nd January (Non-Member)
£95.00 – £110.00Price range: £95.00 through £110.00The story of Domaine Jean Fery begins not with grapes, but with berries. In the 1920s, such was the reputation of founder Louis Jacob as a fruit grower that his intensely aromatic blackcurrant buds became a secret ingredient in Chanel No. 5. As the family’s reputation grew, the next generation turned their attention towards accruing Burgundian vineyards, with Jacob’s daughter Marcelle playing a key role in establishing AOC status for Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune and Hautes-Côtes de Nuits in 1961. Today, steered by brothers Frédéric and Laurent Fery, the family domaine covers 33 hectares across 36 different sites. This mosaic of small, prized parcels, all certified organic, stretches across Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Pernand-Vergelesses, Meursault, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin. Under winemaker François Lecaillon (previously of Domaine de la Vougeraie and Armand Heitz), production is intentionally small, with each cuvée averaging just 2,000-3,000 bottles. Lecaillon employs both wood and ceramic vessels for ageing, with the reds seeing judicious proportions of whole-bunch fermentation for aromatic lift, freshness and spice, while sulphur is kept to a minimum to preserve transparency of fruit. We are delighted to welcome Laurent Fery to the Club for a tasting of seven cuvées from both the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, in a whistle-stop tour of Burugndy from one of the region’s most forward-thinking domaines. The wines we’ll be tasting: 2023 Puligny-Montrachet, Les Nosroyes, Domaine Jean Fery 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet, 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot, Domaine Jean Fery 2023 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, La Combe des Amoureuses, Domaine Jean Fery 2022 Côte de Nuits Villages Le Clos de Magny, Domaine Jean Fery 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Jean Fery 2023 Chambolle-Musigny La Belle Dame, Domaine Jean Fery 1993 Nuits Saint Georges, Les Damodes, Domaine Jean Fery Thursday 22nd January St James’s Room 18:30 - Welcome reception 19:00 - Masterclass begins 20:30 - Masterclass endsSelect options This product has multiple variants. BYOB dinner of older Burgundy with Jasper Morris MW and Libération Tardive Foundation – Tuesday 13th January
£145.00While our 10th anniversary celebrations officially reach their climax in December, we’ve found the perfect excuse to carry them over into January – courtesy of the rather wonderful initiative 10+ Wines (aka the Liberation Tardive Foundation). Liberation Tardive is a not-for-profit organisation promoting the appropriate ageing of fine wine, and was co-founded by Club Member Dominic Buckwell. We are delighted that Dominic has teamed up with Burgundy authority and friend of the Club Jasper Morris MW to host a BYOB dinner celebrating vintages of 10 years’ age and beyond. The second week of January has become known in London wine circles as ‘Burgundy Week’, when producers congregate in the capital to showcase the latest vintage en primeur. Against this backdrop of nascent wines, Members and their guests are invited to bring a bottle (or two) of a vintage with ten years or more development, to share and compare with others. The wines may be red, white (or, of course, one of each) either from Burgundy or another region renowned for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and appropriately aged to show their true quality. Jasper will share some thoughts on the wines and vintages, as well as an update on the latest news and releases from the region. To mark the occasion for what we expect to be a popular evening, we will be holding this event in the Members’ Lounge. Come and join us and your fellow Burgundy lovers to banish the January blues in style… The menu; Coquilles St. Jacques Steak tartare with shoestring fries and leafy salad Fourme d’Ambert, spiced pear & walnut Petit Fours Please email [email protected] if you have any requests as regards seating arrangements and for any dietary requirements.Read moreTuesday 13th January The Members' Lounge 18:30 - Welcome reception 19:00 - Dinner starts 22:30 - Dinner ends

Live From the Vines: Weingut Joh. Jos. Prüm
Hosted by Richard Bampfield MW, Katharina Prüm & Mihailo Martinovic Over 100 vintages on the clock yet less than a handful of careful (family) owners, J. J. (Joh. Jos.) Prüm is an object lesson in the boons of succession and continuity. To state that J. J. Prüm creates some of the world’s most exquisite and sought-after Rieslings is not throwaway applause, but an argument borne out by decades of critical glory, not to mention the going price for its wines, most notably those from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard. This renowned site features prominently in the line-up of wines enjoyed here by Richard Bampfield MW and J. J. Prüm’s owner Katherine Prüm (and available as a tasting kit to digital members), as they discuss her antecedents, the family’s dedication to Riesling, and Prüm’s next steps. Live From the Vines: Rippon Vineyard & Winery
Hosted by Nick Mills & Jo Mills Rippon’s home of Wanaka on New Zealand’s South Island would deserve to sit on any rollcall listing wine’s most dramatic landscapes. This pocket of Central Otago has been under the stewardship of the Mills family since 1912, although it wasn’t until the mid-1970s that thoughts turned – albeit tentatively - to growing vines, when Rolf Mills laid down a few experimental rows. Join and taste alongside winemaker Nick Mills and his wife Jo (Rippon’s director), as they illustrate Rippon’s evolution from its speculative beginnings to the prime, unirrigated, biodynamic estate it is today. Hear how their predecessors had the freedom to plant with wild abandon, meaning anything and everything went into the ground, before successive generations sorted the wheat from the chaff and settled on the six varieties they grow today. Live from the Vines: Neudorf Vineyards
Hosted by Ronan Sayburn MS, Judy Finn, Tim Finn & Rosie Finn Neudorf Vineyards began life in 1978 when Judy and Tim Finn (self-admittedly still riding the ‘back-to-the-land’ wave of the late 1960s) laid down their first vines, with the intention of crafting wines faithful to their soils. A general dearth of viticultural knowledge in New Zealand at the time led to the Finns adopting a suck it and see approach, with a whole host of varieties going into the ground. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir proved to be star performers and the launchpad for the organically run Neudorf where you will also find Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Albariño. The addition to the team of daughter Rosie and winemaker Todd Stevens has allowed Judy and Tim to ease off the gas, although that spirit of creating honest, land-shaped wine remains at its core, as Stevens notes: ‘We have an exceptional site here at Neudorf and it demands little from us in the winery. If we can guide grapes into wine of integrity without buggering it up, we are content.’ Neudorf, Rosie's Block, Moutere, Albariño, Nelson 2020 Neudorf, Tiritiri, Chardonnay, Nelson 2019 Neudorf, Rosie's Block, Twenty Five Rows, Chardonnay, Nelson 2019 Neudorf, Rosie's Block, Moutere, Chardonnay, Nelson 2019 Neudorf, Home Block, Moutere, Chardonnay, Nelson 2019 Neudorf, Home Block, Moutere, Pinot Noir, Nelson 2017 Please note that the Neudorf, Home Block, Moutere, Pinot Noir, Nelson 2019 is replacing the Neudorf, Rosie's Block, Moutere, Chardonnay, Nelson 2019 and the Neudorf, Tom's Block, Moutere, Pinot Noir, Nelson 2017 is replacing the Neudorf, Home Block, Moutere, Pinot Noir, Nelson 2017 tasted during the episode.Read more -

In this episode of 'Live from the Vines' Francisco Baettig and Ronan Sayburn MS taste their way through six vintages, two of Chardonnay and four of Pinot Noir. Live from the Vines: Château Ksara
Hosted by Demetri Walters MW, Elie Maamari & Michael Karam Uncover Château Ksara, Lebanon’s oldest winery. Founded during the Ottoman Empire, a survivor of famine, two World Wars and regional upheaval is a winery that has never missed a harvest. Continuing a story of endurance, the Château is now leading the way in the resuscitation of Lebanon’s wine industry, after the catastrophic explosion in Beirut in August of 2020. We join Demetri Walter MW for a fascinating conversation with owner Elie Maamari, and Lebanese wine expert and author Michael Karam, where we learn more about this diverse group of vineyards located in the heart of the Bekaa Valley.
