Jasper on Terroir: Morgon
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW, Mee Godard, Louis-Benoit Desvignes & Jean-Marc Burgaud Of all Beaujolais’ 10 crus, Morgon is regularly name-checked as being the one whose wines will not only manage, but indeed require and subsequently blossom from an extended stay in the cellar. Its soils, known locally as roche pourrie (‘rotten rock’) - often tinged blue and laced with deposits from a long-silent volcano – are particular to the area and add the stuffing to Morgon’s brand of the Gamay grape. Jasper Morris MW visits winemaker Jean-Marc Burgaud – one of Morgon’s luminaries – to investigate the nooks and crannies of this compelling appellation, unpick its geological fabric and uncork a clutch of its finest, terroir-crafted wines to help complete the picture. Unveiling the secret of Kosher wines with Tal Sunderland-Cohen | Wednesday 25th August
£80.00Add to cartWine has a long history in Judaism: archaeological evidence shows that wine has been produced since ancient times. Today, kosher wines are used for both religious purposes and non-religious occasions in Israel, as well as the international diaspora.
Many people are confused by what "kosher" really means, and Kosher wine is often associated with sweet, boiled wines for sacramental purposes. Beginning in the 1980s, however, a trend towards producing dry, premium-quality kosher wines began with the revival of the Israeli wine industry.
Beautiful kosher wines are now produced in Israel and across the globe, including New Zealand, Spain, and even Burgundy.
Tal Sunderland-Cohen will guide an exploration of traditional wines from ancient times, through a tasting of some of the best kosher wines in the world.

Live from the Vines: Domaine Henri & Gilles Buisson
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW, Franck Buisson & Frédérick Buisson The Buissons have been part of Burgundy’s vinegrowing fabric for over 250 years, and mainstays of Saint-Romain since it achieved appellation status just after the Second World War. At the helm today are brothers Franck and Frédérick, who navigate according to biodynamic theory, which is of no surprise considering that their father, Henri, worked the land organically as far back as the 1960s. Hear more about what drives the siblings to pursue and persist with the biodynamic philosophy, the family’s heritage, its individual parcels of Saint-Romain vineyards, as well as its holdings in those corners of Burgundy considered vineyard nobility: Corton and Corton Charlemagne. Burgundy’s dynamic Domaine Génot-Boulanger with owner Guillaume Lavolée – Wednesday 29th April (PL)
£125.00 – £140.00Price range: £125.00 through £140.00When merchant Justerini & Brooks began importing the wines of Domaine Génot-Boulanger in 2018, it did so in a state of shock. ‘It’s not every day that we come across a 22ha domaine in Burgundy that we have never encountered before, producing wines of such outstanding quality,’ says the merchant’s senior buyer Julian Campbell. The domaine was born as the lifelong dream of two Parisian pharmacists, Charles-Henri Génot and his wife Marie Boulanger, brought to life when they moved to Meursault and purchased vineyards in Mercurey in 1974. After further acquisitions across the Côte d’Or and Côte de Nuits, by the time their grandson Francois Delaby inherited the estate in 1998, he had 22 hectares of prime vineyard at his disposal. Ten years later his daughter Aude and son-in-law Guillaume Lavollée took over and are today the fourth generation to lead the estate. The couple have led a conversion to organic farming, while winemaking follows a non-interventionist approach via indigenous yeasts and gentle extractions including some whole-bunch, and just 20% new oak. Rather like Aude and Guillaume themselves, the wines are precise, composed and elegant. ‘We were taken aback during our initial visit, a tasting which proved startling for its consistent brilliance for both white and red wines,’ recalls Campbell. A year later, tasting the 2018 wines, he went so far as to say he ‘couldn’t think of any other domaine in the Côte that excelled so equally and consistently in both red and white’. Fitting, then, that we will taste two of the 2018 wines with owner Guillaume Lavollée when he joins us to present the domaine. The main focus will be on the 2023s, a range described by Campbell as ‘a tour de force’ via whites with extract, intensity, structure and length; and reds that are translucent, elegant, refined and pure. Come and taste them yourself, with the man who made them. The wines we’ll be tasting: 2017 Corton, Les Combes, Grand Cru, Domaine Génot-Boulanger 2018 Beaune, Les Grèves, 1er Cru, Domaine Génot-Boulanger 2018 Pommard Clos Blanc 1er Cru, Domaine Génot-Boulanger 2022 Pommard, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Génot-Boulanger 2023 Corton-Charlemagne, Grand Cru, Domaine Génot Boulanger 2023 Mercurey, En Sazenay, 1er Cru, Domaine Génot Boulanger 2023 Puligny Montrachet, Les Nosroyes, Domaine Génot Boulanger 2023 Meursault, Clos du Cromin, Domaine Génot-Boulanger 2023 Meursault, Les Bouchères, 1er Cru, Domaine Génot Boulanger Wednesday 29th April St. James’s Room 18:30 – Glass on arrival 19:00 – Masterclass starts 20:30 – Masterclass endsSelect options This product has multiple variants. Château Margaux dinner hosted by Alexis Leven Mentzelopoulos, Philippe Bascaules & Blandine De Rouffignac – Tuesday 9th June (Life Member Access tickets)
£650.00Earlier in the year, we announced a Save The Date for a headline event this summer. We’re fairly confident that, together with the heading above, not much else needs to be said, but if you needed any additional prompting, the further details below will hopefully suffice… As the only first growth in its namesake commune, Château Margaux stands somewhat apart from the mighty Pauillac trio of Latour, Lafite and Mouton. Acclaimed for its elegant, perfumed rendering of its dominant Cabernet Sauvignon, the estate has, in recent years, moved to embrace organic viticulture, harnessed in the Sir Norman Foster-designed cellar that was inaugurated in 2015. Recent vintages have shown the benefit of such investment (though for the most part, Members attending this dinner will have to content themselves with older releases…) Our hosts for this rather special occasion will be not one, not two, but three directors of the property. Co-owner and CEO Alexis Leven Mentzelopoulos took over the role of CEO from his mother Corinne in 2023, continuing the family-owned and -run nature of the estate. He will be joined by Château Margaux’s managing director and chief winemaker Philippe Bascaules and R&D director Blandine De Rouffignac. Between them, they will guide Members through recent developments at the property, the Médoc, and Bordeaux as a whole, while presenting a stellar line-up of wines (including the hugely popular white). All three of the grands vins to be served come from acclaimed ‘9’ years, climaxing in the widely lauded 1989, a truly legendary Bordeaux vintage. The wines we’ll be enjoying: 2017 Pavillon Blanc de Château Margaux, Bordeaux 2019 Pavillon Rouge de Château Margaux, Margaux 2009 Château Margaux, Premier Grand Cru Classé, Margaux 1999 Château Margaux, Premier Grand Cru Classé, Margaux 1989 Château Margaux, Premier Grand Cru Classé, Margaux The menu: Amuse-bouche Langoustine tartare, oyster emulsion First course Braised wild mushrooms on toasted Brioche with egg yolk and truffle butter Second course Loomswood farm duck breast, spiced carrot, braised celery and cherry reduction Third course Tomme de chevre, toasted buckwheat, preserved currants Please email [email protected] if you have any requests as regards seating arrangements and for any dietary requirements.
