The Yin and Yang of Wine Presented by Janet Wang, James Bampfield and Richard Bampfield MW
£100.00Yin and Yang is a philosophical concept that most of us understand as the interactions of opposites: it can describe extremes, tensions, contradictions, but also co-existence, symbiosis and balance. As 67 Members know, great wine is created through the resolution of opposites in the vineyard and the chais: day and night, heat and cold, wet and dry, wood and fruit, sugar and acidity…. Yin and Yang therefore offers a perfect medium for us to gain deeper insight and appreciation for wine. Join us for an evening hosted by Richard Bampfield MW and Janet Z. Wang, with Richard’s brother James as their special guest. Richard and Janet will in tandem be taking us through a flight of 8 wines selected to demonstrate different and contrasting aspects of Yin and Yang – some obvious and others more nuanced. James, who specialises in Eastern philosophy, will treat us to some bonus material about turning concepts of Yin and Yang into practical application in business organisation and leadership. The presentations will cover not only how the concepts of Yin and Yang feature in the wines themselves, but also how they influence the tasting experience. We hope Members will join us in what is sure to be an enlightening and distinctive evening… The wines that will be tasted: Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaumes 2018 Le Domaine d’Henri Hamilton Russell Chardonnay 2020 2017 Syrah “The Joy Fantastic” Black Sheep Finds Saint-Joseph “Le Grand Pompée” 2011 Jaboulet 2018 Wwe Dr. H. 850th anniversary of Schloss Gobelsburg – Jubilee Cuvée tasting with Michael Moosbrugger | Tuesday 19th October
£65.00Schloss Gobelsburg, wine producer in the Kamptal region of Eastern Austria, is celebrating its 850th anniversary this year. They track their history as a wine producing estate back to 1171. The castle still belongs to the Cistercian monks of nearby Zwettl, though Michael Moosbrugger has overseen the estate since 1996, and presided over a period of dramatic success, making this now one of the most iconic estates of Austria. Seven times Schloss Gobelsburg has featured in Wine and Spirits Magazine “Top 100 Wineries” as well as innumerable other international and Austrian awards for both the winery and its wines. Join Michael in the St. James’s Room to present a range of recent, and not so recent vintages, on 19th October. In addition to his great single vineyard Riesling and Gruner Veltliner from the best terroirs of the regions: (Lamm for GV and Heiligenstein for Riesling) we will also drink the Jubilee Cuvée, released this year. It has just won 99 points from Stuart Piggott, writing for James Suckling, and must be on the shortlist for the year’s most unusual wine: a varietal and vintage blend of 30 different vintages, taking us back as far as 1971. Michael has blended this to mark this landmark in the history of this great estate, and we are delighted to offer our Members the opportunity to toast to it’s individualism. Wines to be tasted: Brut Rosé sparkling GV Langenlois 2020 GV Lamm 2013 Riesling Gaisberg 2017 Riesling Heiligenstein 2010 Jubilee Tradition 50 years Pinot Noir Reserve 2010 GV Eiswein 2018. Valentine’s Day Oyster Shucking & Wine Pairing Masterclass
£125.00"I need to think, and to think I must have oysters and champagne." - Gyles Brandreth We are very excited to invite Members to a very romantic Oyster shucking workshop, where our sommeliers have chosen the perfect wines to pair. If you are a fan of oysters, then you know the pleasures that these intriguing bivalves offer. Oysters are as varied as their oceanic terroir - they can be crisp or silky, briny or sweet, 'citrusy' or redolent of cucumber. And no matter what the flavour or texture, they all beg for just the right wine... Oyster Boy combines street market patter with fine dining expertise, and for the last 8 years, the team have been visiting the finest of Europe’s many oyster farms, tasting the various bivalves to bring the best flavours and textures back to the London locations. We welcome Oyster Boy for a pairing of man's oldest delicacy with wines chosen by our sommelier team, following numerous tastings we have orchestrated to ensure that we perfect the pairings. In this workshop, Members will learn the differences in oyster species and their farming methods, the different textures and tastes they possess, and the finest wines with which to pair them. Additionally, you will also learn how to professionally and safely shuck (open) an oyster yourself. The wine & oyster pairings we will taste: WEST MERSEA ROCK, Colchester, Essex Meaty and briny with agricultural and herby aftertaste 2017 Chateau Guiraud , 'Le G de Chateau Guiraud' Blanc Sec CARLINGFORD- North East of Dublin, County Louth. Very light silky flesh, with a sweet, almost nutty flavour. 2017 Hundred Hills, Blanc De Blancs Lindisfarne Rocks- Holy Isle, Lindisfarne, England Crisp flavour of green wood and cucumber with a hint of melon 2019 Le Strette , Langhe Nas-cëtta del Comune di Novello DOC Morcombe Bay Oysters Crispy texture, clean and salty flavour without notes of cream sometimes found in summer oysters. 2017 Franz Hirtzberger , Grüner Veltliner , Kirchweg Smaragd Jersey Oysters Delicate fresh and salty flavour. Tasting Chilean fine-wine trailblazer Clos Apalta – Tuesday 13th May
£75.00 – £90.00‘Chile – now a fine-wine producer’ was the headline of an article by Jancis Robinson MW earlier this year, marking what she perceived as the final step in the country’s progression from source of ‘cheap and cheerful’ wines to a far more notable status.
If you wanted one wine to chart this evolution, look no further than Clos Apalta. Founded in 1994 by the French family behind the Grand Marnier liqueur, with the help of superstar (and since ever-present) consultant Michel Rolland, the cuvée became the first South American wine to be crowned Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year back in 2008. A Bordeaux blend made via organic and biodynamic viticulture, the wine today stands as something of a reference point for quality in Chile, showcasing the richness and complexity of the Colchagua terroir on an old-vine, steep hillside site. We are delighted to welcome family owner and CEO Charles de Bournet Marnier Lapostolle to the Club to present three vintages of Clos Apalta as well as a selection of other wines from the estate, including the more recently launched, small-production Clos du Lican. A bold yet elegant Syrah, Clos du Lican’s distinctive freshness represents the next frontier for the property – exploring single-varietal wines with precision and personality and pushing the boundaries of what Chilean wine can achieve on the world stage. We invite you to join us to explore these compelling wines for yourself. The wines we will be tasting: 2012 Domaines Bournet Lapostolle, Clos Apalta Vinotheque, Colchagua Valley, Chile 2015 Domaines Bournet Lapostolle, Clos Apalta Vinotheque, Colchagua Valley, Chile 2021 Domaines Bournet Lapostolle, Clos Apalta, Colchagua Valley, Chile 2018 Domaines Bournet Lapostolle, Petit Clos, Colchagua Valley, Chile 2022 Domaines Bournet Lapostolle, Prelude, Colchagua Valley, Chile 2021 Domaines Bournet Lapostolle, Cote de Madame Viognier, Colchagua Valley, Chile 2020 Domaines Bournet Lapostolle, Clos du Lican Syrah, Colchagua Valley, Chile

Federico’s Christmas favourites – Friday 2nd December
£75.00Not all Christmas lists are created equal, and few, if any, provoke as much serious thought as the curation of the wine list for your Christmas Day table: Champagne or Chablis with the smoked salmon, perhaps even an off-piste fino Sherry, and does opening that tempting but youthful classed growth equal vinous infanticide? Fortunately, the Club’s Head Sommelier Federico Moccia is on hand to help crystallise your thoughts (or delightfully muddy the waters) with a clutch of superb wines. Federico’s hand-picked selection of his festive favourites will prove ideal partners for your dishes over the Christmas season, including the big day itself. We hope to see you in the St. James’s Room for an evening of mince-pie merriment awash with fine wines and a warm festive glow. Louis M. Martini Masterclass with Edouard Baijot MW – Tuesday 13th December
£85.00Louis M. Martini is etched into Napa Valley folklore and has been creating top-tier Cabernet Sauvignon since 1933. The man himself reached the shores of the United States in 1899 at 12 years of age with little English or education to speak of. When 19, he returned to Italy to learn his craft, before returning and finding minor success in producing grape ‘bricks’ and concentrate which could legally be used for home winemaking during Prohibition. One of the first to champion single varietal wines in Napa and the first winery built in the region after the repeal of Prohibition, Louis M. Martini’s legacy of innovation has since been handed down through the generations. Join Edouard Baijot MW in the St. James’s Room for a masterclass in which we discover seven stellar wines from this iconic Napa Valley winery, including its fascinating and diverse expressions of Cabernet from California’s premier regions. The wines we will be tasting: 2018 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 Monte Rosso Gnarly Vine Zinfandel 2016 Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 Lot 1 Cabernet Sauvignon Tuesday 13th December St. James’s Room 18:30 - J Cuvée 20 Brut on arrival 19:00 – Masterclass begins 20:30 – Masterclass endsRead morePlease note, tickets are refundable for cancellations up to 48 hours before the event. Members’ Social – Monday 21st November
£45.00We were delighted to welcome so many Members to our Halloween Members' Social, as we convened over many a devilishly full glass; we were astounded by the calibre of your costumes. We are now excited to announce more treats in store at our next Members' Social, with Head Sommelier Federico Moccia reprising his role as ringmaster in a renewal of the blind tasting quiz so rapturously received in the past. On the night, all you need to do is scan a QR code and record the answers on your phone, tasting along with Federico as he guides us towards identifying which delicious wine sits in our glass. Those with full marks go into a draw, with prizes awarded on the night, including a bottle of our Club-exclusive Delamain 67 Edition Cognac, which arguably presents reason enough to come along. For those less well-versed in blind tasting, no fear, we encourage you to fine-tune your tasting chops in the Clubroom beforehand, while Members can join us for a post-quiz dinner in the Members' Lounge; reservations can be made by clicking here. As always, wine-loving friends are most welcome. Hamilton Russell Vineyards 50th Anniversary dinner with Anthony Hamilton Russell – Thursday 6th March
£195.00There are certain wineries whose reputation spans not just that of their own wines, but that of the region which they represent. Hamilton Russell Vineyards is one such estate, its championing of South Africa’s coastal Hemel-en-Aarde district, 50 years ago, foreshadowing and enabling the region’s emergence as the country’s prime cool-climate haven. Even 30 years ago, it was still the only winery in the region. Today, there are 28 – and Hamilton Russell’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay stand indisputably among the country’s finest. The brand was founded by Tim Hamilton Russell in 1975, but its international acclaim has been achieved under the direction of his son, Anthony, who took over in 1994. Throughout it all, the focus on just two varieties has remained total. ‘The best decision I ever made,’ says Anthony, ‘was focusing solely on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, instead of 11 different varieties.’ Anthony’s recent interview in our Back Label newsletter will give some sense of what an entertaining speaker he is. We are delighted to welcome him to the club to celebrate the 50th year of his family winery with a Pinot-themed dinner going back into the archives. Do join us for what should be a memorable evening. The menu: Starter Miso-glazed aubergine Main Tournedos Rossini of 28-day, dry-aged Angus fillet, foie gras, truffle-and-Madeira périgueux sauce Dessert A selection of British & European cheesesPlease reach out to [email protected] if you have any dietary requirements/allergies. 67 Pall Mall Presents – Storming of the Sazerac
£150.00'Storming the Sazerac' has become an annual ritual at the Roosevelt Hotel, New Orleans since September 23rd, 1949, when a platoon of women elbowed their way into the Sazerac Bar in a moment of civil disobedience, in pursuit of equal rights and a stiff drink. Women had earned the right to vote nearly thirty years before, but women hadn’t yet fully made their way past the velvet ropes of the many de facto boy’s clubs across America. We Storm the Sazerac on 24th September in the Members' Lounge to celebrate this infamous occasion... Themed live music will be in full swing, as we wind back the clock and cross the pond to 1940s New Orleans. We will begin with a Sazerac cocktail, followed by a 3-course New Orleans-inspired lunch at 1pm. Members will have the opportunity to showcase their foxtrots and jives post-lunch, as we hit the dancefloor to the iconic beat of Dixieland jazz. This event will be BYOB, so bring something that you would like to share with fellow ladies of the Club, however our Members' Lounge wine list will also be available on the day. It is helpful to note that we will make an addendum to our dress code policy for the evening, as we encourage Members to dress with a sartorial nod to post-war New Orleans style. Think 'The New Look', gloves, seamed stockings, shirtwaisters and pillbox hats... Saturday 24th September Members' Lounge 12.30 - Sazerac cocktail on arrival 13.00 - Lunch begins 15.30 - Event to close Ladies are warmly encouraged to continue the celebrations in the Clubroom upstairs once the Members' Lounge Lunch has drawn to a close...Add to cart -
