Quinta de São José Portuguese Tasting – Tuesday 25th October
£45.00Quinta de São José was founded by father and son team, Ruy and João Brito e Cunha in 1999, although their vinous family history dates back to the early 19th century with Ruy’s great-great-grandmother Dona Antónia Ferreira. Also known as the ‘Queen of the Douro’, Dona Antónia was a pioneering figure in Port production, and through the wines he creates the no less innovative João strives to honour her memory. Positioned on the banks of the Douro River, Quinta de São José’s sloped vineyards extend 20ha across the Vale do Douro UNESCO World Heritage Site. The unique terroir of blue-grey shale is threaded with traces of tin from long-abandoned mines which contributes to a distinctive profile of fresh, mineral and complex wines. Join João and renowned Portuguese sommelier Rodolfo Tristão for a trip to the Douro in the St. James's Room, where they will lead us in a tasting of wines which continue to garner international acclaim. Barossa bastion Torbreck with winemaker Ian Hongell – Monday 25th May
£95.00 – £110.00Price range: £95.00 through £110.00Select options This product has multiple variants. The options may be chosen on the product pageWhen Australian winery Torbreck burst onto the scene in the mid-1990s, it’s fair to say that it caused something of a stir.
At the heart of its approach was the revival of neglected old-vine sites in the Barossa Valley, brought back to life through share-farming agreements. The first vintage (1995) of the hedonistic, blockbuster Shiraz-Viognier blend RunRig was swiftly joined by a Grenache-Shiraz-Mataro (aka Mourvèdre) blend known as The Steading. The two wines were lauded by critics, most notably Robert Parker, and quickly attracted a large and devoted following. There have been ups and downs for the label since, with changes of ownership along the way. Throughout it all, the reliance on old vines as the source of its flagship wines hasn’t changed, but perhaps more notably, the Torbreck identity has evolved into something less bombastic and more nuanced. Today, Torbreck makes 19 different cuvées to continued acclaim, still largely from gnarly old, dry-farmed vines, the most venerable of which is approaching 165 years old. As well as the still power-packed RunRig, there is the leaner, more chiselled Eden Valley Shiraz Gask; the single-vineyard cuvée Descendant; and the white Rhône blend Steading Blanc. All come under the auspices of chief winemaker Ian Hongell, who took on the role in 2017 and is the custodian of numerous plots of old vines within Torbreck’s five estates on the western ridge of the Barossa Valley. Today, the wines stand as a tribute to the great wines of the Rhône Valley while remaining essentially Barossa. We are delighted to welcome Ian to the club to guide us through the Torbreck range – including two vintages of RunRig – in what should be a fascinating evening. The wines we’ll be tasting: 2022 The Steading Blanc, Torbreck, Barossa Valley, Australia 2021 Hillside Vineyard Grenache, Torbreck, Barossa Valley, Australia 2022 The Steading, Torbreck, Barossa Valley, Australia 2021 The Gask, Torbreck, Eden Valley, Australia 2020 The Struie, Torbreck, Barossa Valley, Australia (from magnum) 2021 Descendant, Torbreck, Barossa Valley, Australia 2019 Factor, Torbreck, Barossa Valley, Australia 2022 RunRig, Torbreck, Barossa Valley, Australia 2018 RunRig, Torbreck, Barossa Valley, Australia (from magnum) St. James’s Room Monday 25th May 18:30 - Welcome reception 19:00 - Masterclass starts 20:30 - Masterclass endsPlease note, tickets are refundable for cancellations up to 5 business days before the event. Burns Night Dinner 2023 – Wednesday 25th January
£125.00With memories of the revelries and indulgences of Christmas beginning to ebb away, we’re thrilled to announce the ideal opportunity to put your recharged batteries through their paces, for it’s the return of that most traditional of feasts, an exceptional Burns Night dinner in the St. James’s Room. We hope Members are as excited as we are to host what is unequivocally one of our favourite events of the year, complete with all the Burns Night flourishes and trimmings. BURNS NIGHT DINNER 2023 The inaugural Burns supper took place in July 1801, when nine of Robert ‘Rabbie’ Burns' friends got together to mark the fifth anniversary of his death. Regaling each other with performances of his work and a speech in his honour, the acquaintances also nourished themselves with whisky and a generous dinner which had haggis, naturally, at its centre. The merriments were such a success that they decided to reconvene six months later and do it all again on Burns’ birthday, thus starting this baked-in Scottish institution. Join us in celebrating a man who throughout the ages has inspired not only creatives but people from all walks of life: Abraham Lincoln was a lifelong admirer; John Steinbeck’s novel 'Of Mice and Men' took its name from a line in a Burns poem; Bob Dylan declared his greatest inspiration was Burns’ ‘A Red, Red, Rose’, and in 2009 Burns became the first person to appear on a commemorative bottle of Coca-Cola… Appropriately enough for a man who learned and taught French (although he also signed up for the Dumfries Volunteers due to the threat of French attack), a glass of Champagne will greet you on arrival, then our bagpiper and host Jock Wishart will light up proceedings with trademark Scottish joie de vivre. Drams of whisky, the pomp of the piper and an exquisitely paired Burns Night menu will be at the heart of 67 Pall Mall’s celebration of the man behind Auld Lang Syne. Slàinte mhath! Burns Night Menu: Smoked Scottish Salmon, Pickled Cucumber, Crispy Caper Berries Haggis, Neeps & Tatties, Red Jus Clootie Pudding, Whisky Ice Cream Wines to accompany the menu and a dram of whisky to toast the haggis. Wednesday 25th January St James’s Room 18:30 - Champagne on arrival 19:00 - Dinner starts 22:30 - Event finishes Should the event sell out before you are able to secure your ticket, please register your interest using this form. Château Léoville Barton- The Jewel of Saint-Julien – Wednesday April 13th
£175.00We are delighted to welcome Damien Barton-Sartorious to the St. James's Room for the first of a special series of Masterclasses exploring the wines and history of the esteemed Châteaux Léoville Barton, Langoa-Barton, and Mauvesin-Barton estates. The Barton family arrived in France from Ireland in 1722 and their properties, are some of the most loved and sought-after wines of Bordeaux, renowned for their classic elegance. The first Masterclass will take place on April 13th, a vertical of eight vintages of Château Léoville Barton, 2nd growth Grand Cru Classé, Saint-Julien. The estate, consisting of 50 hectares of vines, was bought by Hugh Barton in 1826, and the vineyard is planted to 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Château Léoville Barton famously has no château, and the picture on the label is in fact of its sister property, Château Langoa-Barton. Damien’s grandfather, the late Anthony Barton, raised the property’s level of international recognition, and today his daughter Lilian and her son Damien and sister Melanie continue upholding his legacy. Damien will be returning to present Château Mauvesin-Barton in October and Château Langoa-Barton in December. These are three dates no wine lover can afford to miss. The wines we will be tasting: Château Léoville Barton 1994 Château Léoville Barton 1999 Château Léoville Barton 2000 Château Léoville Barton 2004 Château Léoville Barton 2005 Château Léoville Barton 2012 Château Léoville Barton 2016 Château Léoville Barton 2017 Should the event sell out before you are able to secure a ticket, please register your interest on the waiting list using this form. Dom Pérignon Rosé 2008 Launch Dinner at 67 Pall Mall – Friday 18th March 2022
£375.00We are delighted to invite Members to celebrate the launch of the highly anticipated Dom Pérignon Rosé 2008, with a delicious pairing dinner expertly designed by our Executive Chef Michael Gray. Hosted by Moët Hennessy UK Champagne Ambassador Ethan Boroian, and 67 Pall Mall's very own wine buyer and Somm Extraordinaire Nelson Pari, the night promises to be one not to forget. Our hosts have carefully chosen inspiring examples of fine pinot noirs, and will be drawing on their subtle similarities and differences to Dom Pérignon's latest release during an illuminating evening of epicurean exploration. Dom Pérignon created the 2008 vintage with a bold assemblage of pinot noir grapes from the “Chants de Linottes” parcels in Hautvillers and the “Vauzelles” parcels in Aÿ, whose fruit and structure balance the tension between the precision and natural radiance of the wines, with body and weight. Pushing the boundaries of expertise, both in working the vineyards and for the macerations, it took nearly twelve years of slow and meticulously controlled transformation in the cellars to temper and ultimately conquer the wine. Once the interplay of the assemblage had reached the all-essential harmony – this enabled Chef de Cave Vincent Chaperon to decide to reveal Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2008. Members can also look forward to a month of Dom Pérignon Rosé 2008 by the glass in the Club, which we will be serving with a complimentary helping of Cinco Jotas Acorn-fed Ibérico Ham. Dates soon to be announced... We look forward to raising many a glass with our Members on the night, where we will discover the intricacies of this exciting new release. Friday 18th March 2022 St James’s Room 18:30 - Dom Pérignon 2012 on arrival 19:00 - Dinner begins £375 per guestRead more

From Chenin Blanc to Cabernet Franc, with South African biodynamic pioneer Johan Reyneke – Tuesday 3rd June
£75.00One of just a handful of Stellenbosch properties to be classed as a South African 'First Growth' by Tim Atkin MW, Reyneke has been hailed by fellow critic Neal Martin as a ‘pioneering Stellenbosch estate that has forged its own path’. A leader of South Africa's new wave, Reyneke remains the country's first – and only – certified biodynamic estate. The driving force behind the winery is owner Johan Reyneke, whose dedication to biodynamics not only ensures the production of wines of exceptional character and flavour, but also fosters a deep, holistic connection with the environment. These are wines that speak of the place from which they hail, bursting with an energy and vitality that reflects their particular patch of Stellenbosch. Johan Reyneke strives to respect all beings – people, animals, plants and soil – and nowhere is his credo more evident than in his Cornerstone Bordeaux blend, named after – and with profits going directly to – the farm workers and their families. Château Brane-Cantenac dinner With Henri Lurton – Thursday 5th September
£325.00Read moreChâteau Brane-Cantenac is, to many shrewd observers, the source of one of Bordeaux’s most under-rated wines. Consistently excellent, in an understated yet assured way, this second growth is the epitome of classic claret. Its elegant, fragrant style speaks of the classic Margaux personality, emphasising charm over power and yielding supremely ageworthy wines. Helmed for many years by the similarly self-effacing – yet supremely insightful – Henri Lurton of the renowned family, the estate has proven itself a stalwart of the Médoc. We are delighted to welcome Henri to the Club for an evening exploring the estate in more depth, over a specially designed menu created to complement the wines, which include such renowned vintages as 2010 and 2000, and date back to 1995 and 1986 – the latter served from double magnum. As an added bonus, Members will get to taste the château’s rarely seen white wine, first released in 2019 and produced from a three-hectare plot. 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon, the wine is partly vinified in barrel, and, says Jane Anson, ‘a little on the wild side but sappy and enticing, walking the line between richness and freshness’. We invite you to join us for what promises to be a very special evening. Menu: Dandelion, confit partridge legs and black pudding Fillet of deer, potato galette and Swiss rainbow chard A selection of British & European cheeses Please reach out to [email protected] if you have any dietary requirements/allergies. The Pinot Noir you didn’t know you were missing – Friday 12th June
£85.00 – £100.00Price range: £85.00 through £100.00It’s easy to assume that Switzerland’s forte is white wines. Cool-climate, mountains, those sorts of things… In fact, more than half of the country’s vineyards are planted with black grapes, of which Pinot Noir is the most dominant, having first been planted in the Vaud region back in the 15th century. Today, in terms of volume, Switzerland sits within the world’s top ten Pinot-producing countries – ahead of Chile and just behind Australia. Of course as we all know, however, it is quality not quantity that counts. With that in mind, we are looking forward to welcoming well-known wine consultant Richard Bampfield MW and the UK’s leading Swiss wine expert Simon Hardy DipWSET, both Club members, to introduce some prime Swiss Pinot from nine of its top exponents… Both are adamant that the category merits closer examination – which is exactly what the session will facilitate, via a curated selection from the three key regions: German-speaking Switzerland; Valais; and Three Lakes. Expect silky, suave refinement (and that’s just our two hosts). We encourage you to join Richard and Simon for what promises to be an enlightening evening.
