By Heart Memory workshop with Anna Barham – Wednesday 8th March
£60.00Continuing our series of art-led cultural events, we are delighted to welcome back artist Anna Barham for another experimental writing workshop. Anna will take Members on a journey through the different strategies of experimental writing which inform her practice. The workshop will focus on the concept of learning something 'by heart'. Think of song lyrics or phone numbers and how once learnt, they seem to be etched inside you, like your name. For a variety of reasons, from the rise of smartphones to changes in educational methods, learning ‘by heart’ can seem somewhat old hat, however, during the workshop, we will consider how the slow and repetitive practice of committing a text to memory can, in fact, open up new ways of reading and thinking. Anna Barham is a London-based artist working between video, sound, print, installation, and performance. Her practice considers language as it moves between different material forms, technologies, and bodies. Her work is in public collections including Tate, V&A, Government Art Collection, MIMA, SFMoMA & CGAC. Anna is currently a practice-based PhD candidate at Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. Wednesday 8th March St. James’s Room 18:30 to 20:30 - Champagne and canapés will be servedRead morePlease note, tickets are refundable for cancellations up to 48 hours before the event. Cancellations must be made in writing to [email protected]. Any cancellations within 48 hours of the event are non-refundable unless 67 Pall Mall resells the ticket to another Member. This is only possible when the event is sold out and there is a waiting list.

Deep Dive Bordeaux: Saint-Julien
Hosted by Jane Anson Continuing her exploration of Bordeaux’s headline appellations, we find Jane Anson, author of Inside Bordeaux, among the vines of Saint-Julien. This may be the smallest of the Médoc’s heavy-hitting communes, but it’s one which punches above its weight, with more than three quarters of its vineyards being classed-growth terroir. Through the lens of the legendary 2010 vintage, Anson reflects on the history, soil, location and most celebrated names of Saint-Julien, concluding with her selection of vintage standouts which are available as a tasting kit to digital members. The wines that we will taste: Château Gloria, Saint Julien, 2010 Château Lagrange, Saint-Julien 2010 Château Talbot, Quatrième Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2010 Château Beychevelle, Quatrième Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2010 Château Langoa-Barton, Troisième Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2010 Château Leoville Poyferre, Saint-Julien 2010Read more -

Jasper on Vintage: 2015 – Red
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW 2015 ranks as one of Burgundy’s preeminent red vintages of recent times, with more than a smattering of stardust to be found along the region’s Route des Grand Crus. Yet, despite the lauded nature of the year, the empirical observations of Jasper Morris MW are no less crucial. In this episode, Morris delivers his verdict on 2015, cherry-picking a handful of wines from key appellations to make his case, while reviewing the vintage’s talking points, explain what to look out for, and how much staying power you can expect from this celebrated year. Benjamin Leroux, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru, Les Champeaux 2015 Thibault Liger-Belair, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, Les Gruenchers 2015 Domaine Michele & Patrice Rion, Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru, Clos des Argillieres 2015 Bouchard Pere & Fils, Corton Grand Cru 2015 Domaine Francois Buffet, Volnay 1er Cru, Clos de la Rougeotte 2015 Comte Armand, Pommard Premier Cru, Clos des Epeneaux Monopole 2015Read more -

Jasper on Vintage: 2017 – White
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW Despite early, ominous signs of a frost-hit rerun of 2016 - and the mass burning of hay bales to avoid just that - 2017 dramatically changed course to become one of white Burgundy’s stars of the last decade. Making full use of his ample knowledge and far-reaching connections, Jasper Morris MW delivers his evaluation of the year, digging around amongst the minutiae of the vintage, and casting his eye over the producers and appellations who thrived against the odds, not least Chablis which, while still badly bruised by a wave of frost, delivered one of the standout successes of an already lauded year. Domaine A & P de Villaine, Rully, Les Saint-Jacques 2017 Domaine Samuel Billaud, Chablis Premier Cru, Montée de Tonnerre 2017 Domaine Ballot-Millot & Fils, Meursault Premier Cru, Charmes 2017 Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Champs-Gains 2017 Domaine Jacques Carillon, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Champs Canet 2017 Domaine Bruno Clair, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2017Read more -

Live from the Vines: Domaine Ponsot
Hosted by Alexandre Abel & Jasper Morris MW Integrity courses through Ponsot, be that in its approach in the vineyard, or the relationship it enjoys with its many adorers. Regards the former, the Ponsot practice more than dips into both organic and biodynamic viticulture (although Ponsot eschews these tags). As to the latter, if it feels the wines are not up to scratch then Ponsot will reduce the price, as was the case for virtually the entire 1994 vintage. Alternatively, as Ponsot says, ‘we send it to the distillery, as we did for the Morey Clos des Monts Luisants 1993 and 2012.’ Master of Wine Jasper Morris visits this beacon of Burgundy, discussing Ponsot’s at-times controversial ethos with its chief winemaker Alexandre Abel and the family’s fifth-generation winegrower William Ponsot. It is an engrossing insight into the inner workings of an unflinchingly exacting property, culminating in a spectacular, multi-vintage tasting of its sublime Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, which is also available to our digital members as a tasting kit. Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2017 Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2013 Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2010 Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2006 Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2001 Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 1999Read more -

Jasper on Terroir: The Charm of Burgundy
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW & Dominique Lafon One of the wonderful features of Burgundy is the multiplicity of place names, many of which feature in several different appellations. Theoretically there is a reason behind each name. In this tasting we take a look at the magical name of Charmes which can be found at village, premier cru and grand cru level. Is there a thread which links the Charmes vineyards in different villages? Join Jasper in the first edition of this series exploring the multi-faceted subject of terroir, to find out where the name came from and how they all link up. Alain Chavy, Puligny-Montrachet, Les Charmes 2017 Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Meursault-Charmes Premier Cru 2016 Domaine Jean Foillard, Morgon, "Les Charmes" Eponym 2018 Thibault Liger-Belair, Nuits-Saint-Georges, La Charmotte 2014 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru, Les Charmes 2015 Gérard Raphet, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2012Read more -

An exclusive invitation to taste the world’s oldest single malt Scotch whisky – Wednesday 24th September
£0.00Earlier this year, Gordon & MacPhail announced the release of the world’s oldest single malt Scotch whisky – Gordon & MacPhail 85 Years Old from Glenlivet Distillery, due for release in October. We are delighted, then, to invite a select group of whisky-loving Members to sample this liquid, and to taste a drop of liquid history. For more than 130 years, over four generations of family ownership, independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail has matched its own specially selected casks with spirit from over 100 Scottish distilleries. It was on 3rd February, 1940, in a quiet corner of the north-east of Scotland, that George Urquhart and his father, John, decided to lay down spirit from Glenlivet Distillery in a Gordon & MacPhail American oak cask to be enjoyed after their lifetime. During wartime, whisky production was curtailed due to rationing and lack of manpower, with the vast majority of malt whisky destined for the blends that dominated the market. Gordon and MacPhail was unusual in earmarking casks to be bottled in their own right as single malts. Only when the whisky was deemed ready would Cask 336 be shared. That time ended up being 85 years later – longer than any other single malt Scotch whisky in history – when the decision was taken to finally empty the cask and a total of 125 decanters of the 85 years old whisky were bottled – ‘not because it’s very old,’ says 4th generation family member Stephen Rankin, ‘but because of the quality’. Stephen will be our host to guide Members through not only the Gordon & MacPhail 85 Years Old from Glenlivet Distillery, but three other rare single malts from Gordon & MacPhail’s Rare Spirit Liquid Library. Please note that, while this is a complimentary event, it is limited to 24 attendees, and we have extended the initial invitation only to a select group of the Club’s Membership. We would ask, therefore, that if you sign up to the event and are then unable to attend, you let us know as soon as possible, so that we can offer your place to another Member. Wine & The Food of Asia
£45.00 – £80.00Price range: £45.00 through £80.00Wine & The Food of Asia is 67 Pall Mall's third book. Authored by Head of Wine Asia, Richard Hemming MW in collaboration with the esteemed At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy, the book explores the intricate art of pairing wine with Asian cuisine, offering readers original insights into harmonising diverse culinary traditions with the world of wine. Wine & The Food of Asia is the culmination of extensive research, including hundreds of methodical tastings conducted over the course of a year. Featuring more than 400 wines from nearly 100 grape varieties across 20 countries, the book presents 80 iconic Asian recipes paired with an array of wines—from approachable favourites to rare gems—designed to captivate both casual wine enthusiasts and seasoned collectors. At the heart of the book lies a comprehensive exploration of pairing wine with the bold, diverse, and often challenging flavours of Asian cuisine. Richard Hemming MW brings over two decades of experience in viticulture, winemaking, and wine education to this ambitious project. By bridging the worlds of wine and Asian gastronomy, Hemming challenges traditional approaches and offers a fresh perspective on pairing wine with dishes from 13 countries, including India, Nepal, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Korea, Japan—and, of course, Singapore. In addition to being a wine reference, Wine & The Food of Asia doubles as a practical kitchen guide. Recipes for beloved dishes such as Pad Thai and Black Pepper Crab, provided by the culinary experts at the At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy, are accompanied by expertly curated wine pairings. For each recipe, Hemming suggests one primary match along with at least two alternative options, giving readers flexibility and inspiration. “Matching wine with food is about the pursuit of pleasure, not dogma. The most enjoyable part of creating this book was cooking the recipes at home and pairing them with great wines. For me, it’s all about bringing people together to share good food and wonderful wine. That’s the essence of what 67 Pall Mall is about,” shares Richard Hemming MW. Jeannie Cho Lee MW lauds the book, saying, “It was with delight and pleasure that I read this much-needed book. The world of wine is vast and deep; the world of Asian cuisine may be even more complex. Bringing the two together is nothing short of herculean!” Whether used as a wine guide, a cookbook, or a source of inspiration, this book is an essential addition to the collections of wine and food lovers everywhere. The book is priced at £45.00, the pricing below includes shipping. We kindly ask Members who wish to collect their order from Club to indicate their desired date in the order notes. Burgundy: The Viticultural Revolution with William Kelley – Thursday 2nd March
£595.00The last handful of years has witnessed a viticultural revolution in Burgundy, unprecedented since the era of phylloxera. The manner in which vineyards are planted, how soils are cultivated and the way canopies are managed are all being rethought, with profound consequences for the wine in the glass. In this masterclass, William Kelley of The Wine Advocate explores this movement through the lens of some of Burgundy’s leading practitioners’ wines, ranging from grand cru vineyards to more humble appellations, all united by a common pursuit of excellence and willingness to adapt in a changing climate. We are delighted to welcome William to the St. James's Room for the first time, in what is sure to be an insightful and memorable evening spent tasting some truly exceptional Burgundy wines. Members should keep their eyes keenly trained on their inboxes for further exciting events with William in anticipation of the 2025 opening of our new Club in Beaune. William Kelley fell in love with wine while studying at Oxford, where he presided over the university's prestigious Wine Circle for three years while completing a doctorate in history. In addition to hosting tastings with many of the Old World's greatest wineries, ranging from Bordeaux first growths to boutique producers such as Yves Gangloff and Marta Rinaldi, he brought many of California's most celebrated winemakers to Oxford for the first time. Kelley had the privilege to cut his teeth as a taster on many of the great wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. After a stint covering Burgundy for Decanter magazine and working harvests in both California and the Côte d'Or, he made the move to The Wine Advocate in 2017, where his firsthand experience making wine of his own in Burgundy and California informs his writing style. We look forward to seeing you there. The wines we will be tasting: 2017 Domaine Jean-Marc Vincent St.Aubin 'Les Combes' 1er Cru, Jean-Marc Vincent 2018 Rully Blanc Maizières, Domaine Dureuil-Janthial 2017 Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin La Princée 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Domaine Lamy Caillat 2017 Volnay 1er Cru "Les Caillerets", Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Dugat-Py 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Herbues, Nicolas Faure 2017 Corton, Les Grèves, Grand Cru, Domaine des Croix 2018 Domaine Bruno Lorenzon Mercurey 'Pièce 15' Thursday 2nd March St. James’s Room 18:30 – Glass on arrival 19:00 – Masterclass begins 20:30 – Masterclass endsRead morePlease note, tickets are refundable for cancellations up to 48 hours before the event.
