Brunch & Wine Tasting with Co-Founder of Caudalie, Mathilde Thomas – On Tuesday 29th April
£80.00Join us for a rescheduled edition of our special brunch and wine tasting as we warmly welcome Mathilde Thomas, co-founder of skincare brand Caudalie to the Club. After travel disruptions prevented her from joining us previously, we're delighted that Mathilde can now share the remarkable story of how a pioneering skincare brand was born among the vines of one of Bordeaux’s most trailblazing estates – her family’s Château Smith Haut Lafitte. Taken over in 1990 by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, Graves Grand Cru Classé Château Smith Haut Lafitte has become a benchmark for sustainability and quality, leading the way with organic farming, renewable energy and its own cooperage and vine nursery. This same respect for nature inspired the Cathiards’ daughter Mathilde and her husband Bertrand Thomas to harness the powerful antioxidant properties of grape polyphenols, launching Caudalie as a revolutionary force in skincare. Mathilde will dive into the interplay between wine, wellness and sustainability, before guiding us through a tasting of a couple of her favourite vintages – each linked to a defining moment in the history of Caudalie. We hope you can join us. The wines we will be tasting: 2023 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 'Les Hauts de Smith' 2015 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte The brunch menu: Crushed avocado on sourdough toast, served with a poached egg and chilli flakes A selection of birchers and viennoiserie, jams and smoked salmon bagels A range of teas, coffees and juices will be available Tuesday 29th April The Members’ Lounge 11:00 - Event begins 12:30 - Event endsAdd to cartPlease note, tickets are refundable for cancellations up to 5 days before the event. Into the Vines Through the Wines of Friuli-Venezia Giulia – Tuesday 21st February
£50.00Nudging up against Slovenia and Austria, Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s name has been made on the back of characterful, whistle-clean white wines which seem to directly echo the purity of the region’s mountainous terroir; however, this doesn’t even begin to tell the full story. Here you will also find generous and elegant reds, not to mention a swathe of idiosyncratic wine styles found nowhere else - anyone for a super-macerated, copper-coloured Pinot Grigio that’s been aged on its lees for two years? We hope Members will be similarly enthused and delighted to welcome Matteo Bellotto and Angelo Turi from Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s consorzio, as we taste the nuances of a region which plays host to 66 different varieties planted on a complex array of soils. Aided by in-depth data presented via Google Earth, Members will embark on a journey deep into the viticultural tradition of a region whose uniqueness is perfectly transmitted through its wines. The wines we will be tasting: 2021 Adriano Gigante, Friulano Vigneto Storico 2020 Livio Felluga, Terre Alte 2021 Venica & Venica, Ronco delle Mele 2018 Ermacora, Picolit 2019 Specogna, Pinot Grigio Ramato Riserva 2016 Attimis Maniago, Tazzelenghe 2016 Ermacora, Pignolo 2016 Valentino Butussi, Godje Tuesday 21st February St James’s Room 18:30 Welcome Drink 19:00 Masterclass starts 20:30 Masterclass endsRead morePlease note, tickets are refundable for cancellations up to 48 hours before the event. Académie du Vin Book Club Evening With Andrew Jefford – Friday 4th November
£85.00Andrew Jefford is one of today’s most highly respected and awarded wine writers, a scribe described by the legendary winemaker Randall Grahm as ‘the most thoughtful person we have writing about wine'. On November 4th, we present a very special opportunity to join him in conversation with 67 Member Hermione Ireland of Académie du Vin Library, his publisher, as he talks about his new book, Drinking with the Valkyries. The Académie du Vin Library was founded by Steven Spurrier and friends and is dedicated to publishing the finest wine writing of the past, the present and the future. Its credo of quality over quantity, but most of all choosing books for their readability, is perfectly encapsulated in Drinking with the Valkyries, in which Andrew anatomises the pleasure that awaits every drinker while simultaneously furnishing a philosophy of wine based on personal discovery. Do join us for an evening of libation and illumination featuring a distinctive set of wines featured in the book, and where questions from the audience are very much encouraged... Allram Estates Kamptal Masterclass – Monday 6th February
£50.00The award-winning Allram estate lies in the heart of the Kamptal, in the picturesque Strass im Strassertal, and has been one of the leading lights of the region for decades, with holdings in the famous vineyards of Heiligenstein, Gaisberg and Renner. Allram is very much a family enterprise, with father Erich and son Lorenz sharing responsibilities in the vineyards and cellar, whilst mother Michaela and daughter Magdalena oversee the commercial side of the business. It is this family tradition, harmony and the passing on of knowledge through the generations which lies at the root of the Allrams’ ethos. By Heart Memory workshop with Anna Barham – Wednesday 8th March
£60.00Continuing our series of art-led cultural events, we are delighted to welcome back artist Anna Barham for another experimental writing workshop. Anna will take Members on a journey through the different strategies of experimental writing which inform her practice. The workshop will focus on the concept of learning something 'by heart'. Think of song lyrics or phone numbers and how once learnt, they seem to be etched inside you, like your name. For a variety of reasons, from the rise of smartphones to changes in educational methods, learning ‘by heart’ can seem somewhat old hat, however, during the workshop, we will consider how the slow and repetitive practice of committing a text to memory can, in fact, open up new ways of reading and thinking. Anna Barham is a London-based artist working between video, sound, print, installation, and performance. Her practice considers language as it moves between different material forms, technologies, and bodies. Her work is in public collections including Tate, V&A, Government Art Collection, MIMA, SFMoMA & CGAC. Anna is currently a practice-based PhD candidate at Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. Wednesday 8th March St. James’s Room 18:30 to 20:30 - Champagne and canapés will be servedRead morePlease note, tickets are refundable for cancellations up to 48 hours before the event.
