Borgogno Masterclass with Luca Colia & Mattia Tabacco – Monday 24th October£85.00Born in 1761 in the heart of Barolo, Borgogno is the oldest continuously operating Barolo producer who has stood witness to the most significant moments in Italian history. In 1861, the year of the Unification of Italy, Borgogno’s Barolo was chosen to accompany the official celebratory lunch. Today, it continues to be the expression of a territory with admirable traditions, and yet is re-inventing itself with promising prospects in the future. Borgogno believes that the making of extraordinary wines takes time. When Giacomo Borgogno took over the management of the winery in 1920, he implemented the forward-thinking policy of putting away stocks of good vintages in bottle and releasing them over two decades later, something our Members will be able to taste for themselves in the 1982 Giacomo Borgogno Riserva. Borgogno adopts the unconventional approach of valuing practice over theory in the cellar. Their wines are still made according to the traditions of long, spontaneous fermentations in concrete tanks without the use of selected yeasts, as well as long periods of ageing, strictly in large Slavonian oak barrels. Join Luca Colia, the Export Manager of Borgogno and Oeno Group Buyer, Mattia Tabacco, for a masterclass exploring the history and present-day of this distinguished winery, whilst sampling 5 outstanding wines dating back to 1982. If you struggle with booking a ticket via our website for any reason, please contact our team contacting [email protected]. St-Emilion Grand Cru Classé going back to 1966 – Monday 17th November£125.00 – £140.00Price range: £125.00 through £140.00Select options This product has multiple variants. The options may be chosen on the product pageNestled in the heart of Saint-Émilion, Couvent des Jacobins stands as one of the Bordeaux Right Bank’s most historic estates. The estate was established on one of the highest points in Saint-Émilion in 1389, following a land bequest to the Dominican friars known as the Jacobin Brothers. For nearly four centuries, the friars cultivated vines just outside the city moats, producing wines that were exported to the royal courts of England and France. Over time, Couvent des Jacobins became one of the most representative names of the region, earning its Grand Cru Classé status in the inaugural 1955 Saint-Émilion classification. Under the stewardship of the Jean and Joinaud families since 1902, today, it marries its centuries-old heritage with a forward-looking commitment to sustainability, certified organic farming and precise, terroir-driven winemaking. But beneath the estate lies the most valuable part of its story. The 10-metre-deep underground cellars, harnessed as limestone quarries in the 17th and 18th centuries have, since the early 20th century, been used to store wine at perfect humidity and temperature. They are home to a unique archive: a library of old vintages preserved by the Jean family for future generations as part of the estate’s enduring legacy. We are delighted to welcome Couvent des Jacobins’ winemaker and general manager Dennis Pomarede to the Club to guide Members through a rare, six-decade vertical tasting to reflect the evolution of both the estate and Saint-Émilion as a whole. From the 1966 vintage to the 2020, via 1982 and 1995, each bottle reveals a different chapter in the story of this historic domaine. Barolo and Barbaresco Masterclass with Elvio Cogno – Wednesday 26th March£95.00 – £110.00Price range: £95.00 through £110.00We know that Members are big fans of Piedmont – and we have a special treat for you later this month, via a tasting with an estate that, over the last three decades, has established itself among the region’s most respected names. It was in 1990 that Elvio Cogno bought a modest 18th-century farmhouse and a few parcels of land in the somewhat neglected commune of Ravera, near the sleepy village of Novello. Of Barolo’s 11 communes, Ravera was traditionally the least celebrated, with most growers selling their grapes rather than making their own wines. Cogno, however, was born in Novello, and knew the potential of the Ravera vineyards. He set about redeveloping the vineyard sites with the help of his son-in-law Valter Fissore. Since Cogno’s passing in 2016, Valter has further championed the commune, producing Barolos that, besides boasting great ageing potential, manage to combine complexity and structure with finesse, freshness and sheer pleasure. Today, he produces four different Barolo from Ravera, each with its own distinctive character. ‘I like wines that show great differences in terroir,’ says Valter. ‘It’s a Burgundy-style project.’ And not just in philosophical terms – the vineyards are organically farmed, oak influence is minimal, and the wines ooze finesse and elegance, with tannins sowing a distinctly Pinot-like silkiness. We are delighted to welcome Valter to the Club for a tasting that will also include the racy, intense white wine that he makes from the indigenous Nascetta variety that he was in a large way responsible for saving from extinction; and an equally rare Barbera made from pre-phylloxera, 120-year-old vines, showcasing astonishingly velvety minerality. Do join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening hosted by a passionate winemaker. The wines we will be tasting (updated): 2022 Langhe Nascetta di Novello, Elvio Cogno 2021 Barbaresco Bordini, Elvio Cogno 2020 Barolo Cascina Nuova, Elvio Cogno 2020 Barolo Ravera, Elvio Cogno (from double magnum) 2012 Barolo Ravera, Elvio Cogno 2019 Barbera d’Alba Pre-Phylloxera, Elvio Cogno 2017 Barolo Vigna Elena Riserva, Elvio Cogno 2015 Barolo Bricco Pernice, Elvio Cogno Wednesday 26th March St. James’s Room 18:30 – Welcome reception 19:00 – Masterclass begins 20:30 – Masterclass ends Please note that we now offer a tasting board of charcuterie, cheese, olives and smoked crispy chickpeas to accompany your tasting. Masterclass with legendary Napa estate Grgich Hills – Tuesday 8th April£95.00 – £110.00Price range: £95.00 through £110.00When Miljenko ‘Mike’ Grgich died, aged 100, just over a year ago, he left an indelible legacy on the Napa Valley winemaking scene. Grgich came to fame via the celebrated ‘Paris Tasting’ of 1976, as the winemaker responsible for the 1973 Chateau Montelena that took top honours in the Chardonnay class. The success gave Grgich the confidence, a year later, to branch out alone, with the creation of his Grgich Hills winery (the Hills is a reference not to the Napa hillsides – the vineyards are on the valley floor – but to business partner Austin Hills of the Hills Bros coffee family). Initially making wine from bought-in grapes, he grew the brand to span vineyards across almost 150 hectares – predominantly Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc. Almost half a century on, Grgich’s daughter Violet and nephew Ivo Jeramaz lead the estate. Like his uncle, Ivo grew up in Croatia to a family of grape growers. After coming to California in the 1980s seeking work as an engineer, he visited the Napa Valley, was struck by its scenic beauty, and became fascinated with winemaking. Sensing his nephew was open to a career change, Grgich put him to work washing barrels. ‘I started on $7 an hour,’ says Ivo. ‘I didn't care. I was happy to be here. He tested me for three years to see what kind of person I was. It took me 10 years before he gave me any responsibility.’ Today, Ivo is responsible for all day-to-day operations in the cellar and the vineyards, which he transformed to organic and biodynamic farming in 2003 – a decision he says it took only five minutes for his uncle to approve. Ivo says such an approach ‘allows the wines to be more authentic – more distinctive.’ We invite you to judge for yourself as we welcome Ivo to 67 Pall Mall to host what promises to be a thrilling tasting of Grgich Hills wines. 50th anniversary tasting of South African star Meerlust, including the inaugural 1980 vintage of Rubicon – Wednesday 14th May£95.00 – £110.00Price range: £95.00 through £110.00While wine has been produced on Stellenbosch’s historic Meerlust Estate for over 300 years, it was only in 1975 that the wines appeared commercially, under the Meerlust label. The first release was a Cabernet Sauvignon, followed just five years later by Rubicon, South Africa’s first Bordeaux blend, which swiftly became a benchmark for the country’s fine-wine scene and remains the estate’s flagship wine. While Cabernet and Cabernet blends are now established as the signature style of Stellenbosch, back in the late 70s, such wines were a rarity. Along with Kanonkop, Meerlust was one of the few producers of the variety, and certainly the pioneer of the South African Bordeaux blend that it established with the 1980 release of Rubicon. As a result, its Cabernet vines are among the country’s oldest, yielding wines in a style, it says, that seeks to blend ‘Old World sophistication with New World vibrancy’. To celebrate Meerlust’s 50th anniversary, we are thrilled to welcome both Hannes Myburgh, the estate’s eighth-generation owner, and head winemaker Wim Truter to guide us through a tasting of ten wines, including several older vintages. The tasting will climax with the inaugural 1980 Rubicon, providing a chance to taste a wine which, due to the international boycott of South African wines throughout much of the 1980s and ‘90s, has rarely been seen on the UK market. We look forward to welcoming you. Rose and Arrow, the quest for Grand Cru in Oregon | Monday 8th November£50.00Join Simon Littler, partner and board director for Rose and Arrow Estate, for an evening spent discovering Oregon from the comfort of the St. James’s Room. Members will learn about the singular, wild beauty in Pinot Noir grown in the tiny hillside pleats created by the cataclysmic Yellowstone Volcanic eruptions some 15 million years ago. “Terroir Whisperer” Pedro Parra taught us that the wines from Oregon we love to drink grow only in vineyards created by this erosion of indigenous volcanic mother rock, join us as we explore why this rock we need isn’t carried in from distant places by flood or glacier, but must turn to rock in the place where we find it. Discover how winemakers Louis Michel Liger-Belair and Felipe Ramirez liberate the vines’ instincts to produce the Pinot Noir in our glasses. We will be tasting single-origin wines, which embody the pleasure of paradox: a light body with a depth of complex flavors, aromas, and textures. A universal history of the hills, and the singular story of each parcel’s erosion. Château Montrose – the Legend of St-Estèphe – Tuesday 10th May£325.00Château Montrose has historically been known as the “Latour of St-Estèphe”, renowned for its ability to produce some of the Médoc’s most classical, long-lasting, and revered wines. Today, it is equally known for spearheading the green revolution under the watchful eye of its CEO, Hervé Berland, who has also led a team dedicated to plot-by-plot precision viticulture. Château Montrose is famous for producing some of the Médoc’s longest-lasting wines, and Members will be able to experience this themselves with a vertical of this renowned wine back to the 1976 vintage. The Château had been owned by the Charmolüe family since 1896 until it was sold in 2006 to the Bouygues brothers. Under Martin Bouygues’ direction, Château Montrose underwent a spectacular rehabilitation project, combining construction and renovation, traditional architecture and high-tech facilities, which was completed in time for the 2013 harvest. The 94-hectare vineyard lies on a gravelly knoll only 800 metres from the Gironde, where the proximity of the estuary provides a unique microclimate, with the riverside breezes keeping the vines healthy. It is a real privilege to welcome back Hervé Berland, CEO of Château Montrose to the Club, to guide Members through 40 years of one of Bordeaux’s most sought-after wines. Markus Molitor Riesling Masterclass – Thursday 9th February£55.00In 2015, Markus Molitor snared a hat-trick of 100-point scores from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for three of his Auslese Rieslings, thereby earning him the moniker ‘Herr 300 Punkte’ (Mr. 300 Points). At the time, it was just the latest in a litany of accolades Markus had garnered since taking over the family’s Mosel-based estate in 1984, when just 20 years old. Today, Markus tends to 120ha of vineyards, 75% of which are classified as Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) sites, while the rest are located on the fertile banks of the Saar river; all perch on precipitous slopes, and here you will find some vines which have been in the ground for 100 years. The estate produces 80 unique wines each year, from grapes spontaneously fermented in wooden barrels with natural yeasts. However, the focus of this masterclass will be Markus Molitor’s astonishing, dry Riesling Ausleses from the ancient, ungrafted vineyards of Zeltinger Sonnenuhr. Hosted by Daniel Kiowski, Markus Molitor’s export director and a former sommelier at many of Germany’s Michelin-starred restaurants, this promises to be an evening of exceptional wine, where Members are afforded the rare opportunity to taste library vintages of Markus’ exceptional Rieslings and experience the astonishing ageing potential of the grape. Burgundy and Oregon come together in the wines of Domaine Nicolas-Jay – Thursday 23rd October£95.00 – £110.00Price range: £95.00 through £110.00Over the last two decades or so, the quality of Oregon Pinot Noir and Chardonnay has drawn attention not just from critics and consumers, but from Burgundian winemakers, with several notable names investing in the US state. Among them is Jean-Nicolas Méo of the renowned Domaine Méo-Camuzet who, in 2013, joined up with long-time friend and visionary US music entrepreneur Jay Boberg to launch Domaine Nicolas-Jay. Working initially with a variety of growers to source grapes from across the Willamette Valley, the pair set out to blend Burgundian tradition with the vibrancy of a young winegrowing region. Their inaugural 2014 vintage, sourced from nine distinguished vineyards, earned immediate critical acclaim and in 2019 they expanded to a dedicated estate in Dundee Hills, planting Pinot Noir vines from Burgundy and converting a barn into a winery. They have since added the organically farmed, own-rooted Bishop Creek site in Yamhill-Carlton as part of a move towards focusing on single-vineyard wines. Jay and Jean-Nicolas are firmly of the belief that, when approached with the same patience and reverence as practised by Méo-Camuzet in its Burgundy grands and premiers crus, Oregon Pinot Noir and Chardonnay can produce ageworthy wines of profound depth and character. In just a decade, Nicolas-Jay has cemented its place as a bridge between the Old World and the New, and with each release, further solidified itself as one of the state’s most compelling wineries. The team at 67 had the pleasure of tasting with Jay earlier in the year (see here for his interview in The Back Label) and we’re thrilled to welcome him back to the Club to talk Members through the wines – as well as a bonus bottle from Méo-Camuzet. Swiss Wine Walk Around Tasting With Simon Hardy – Monday 3rd October£45.0067 Pall Mall London has significantly increased its selection from Switzerland, which now exceeds 100 wines. This makes it by far the best place (apart from our Verbier Club) to explore the country’s unique Alpine terroir and discover the meaning of ‘heroic viticulture’. Following on from recent sold-out Swiss tastings, Swiss wines are back in the St. James’s Room. Join us for an exceptional walkaround tasting where Members can enjoy the rare opportunity to sample more than 40 wines from the region alongside Swiss Wine Ambassadors Simon Hardy and Jean-François Genoud. We will be tasting wines from 20 top producers, hand-selected to represent the enormous diversity of the country’s wine-growing regions. We will taste ancient local varieties such as Chasselas and Petite Arvine whites, as well as Cornalin and Humagne Rouge reds. Rare and unique grapes such as Completer and Humagne Blanche will be showcased, alongside original creations such as Gamaret, a cross between Gamay and Reichensteiner originally created by André Jaquinet in 1970. More usual suspects such as Pinot Noir, Merlot and Syrah will be in attendance, offering the ideal opportunity to discover remarkable expressions of each variety. The wines will be accompanied by a range of delicious Swiss cheeses. Additionally, eager Members can discover Alpine wines on 67pallmall.tv, where we cast the spotlight on the region in episodes devoted to the Canton of Vaud, and La Mémoire des Vins Suisses. Simply click here to watch. We hope to see you there… Monday 3rd October St James’s Room 18:30 – Tasting to begin 20:30 – Tasting endsRead more

Ruinart Masterclass with Chef de Caves Frédéric Panaïotis – Monday 20th February£125.00On Monday 20th February, we will be thrilled to welcome Frédéric Panaïotis, the chef de caves of Ruinart, to the Club. Ruinart stands as not only one of Champagne’s most sophisticated grandes marques, but also the region’s oldest established House, with 1729 marking its year of birth. Frédéric, whose hand has been on the Ruinart tiller since 2007, oversees its entire portfolio which stretches from the non-vintage Blanc de Blancs through to the majestic Dom Ruinart. Centred around a theme of ‘uncorked’, Frédéric - who is regarded as one of Champagne’s most talented winemakers - will be shining a light on the indispensable role that cork plays in Champagne production, most notably the ageing process. For the 2010 vintage of Dom Ruinart, Frédéric took the remarkable step of moving away from the industry norm of ageing Champagne under a crown seal to cork ageing, and this very special evening gives our Members the opportunity to taste the startling results, with both Dom Ruinart 2009 and 2010 being on the tasting menu. We look forward to you joining us for a masterclass which should be gold-plated into the diary of our Champagne-loving Members.
