The Expert Series: The 12 Wines of Christmas | Part 1 Red
Hosted by Richard Bampfield MW, Michael Palij MW, Anne de Berard & Frits Vogels The concluding part of our Wines of Christmas features an ensemble of wines hand-picked by Richard Bampfield MW. Bampfield invites a trio of guests – Michael Palij MW and two 67 Pall Mall members, Frits Vogels and founder of London Women in Wine, Anne de Berard – to each taste a brace from his selection. Expectations are high, with the line-up including a Barossa blend from the renowned Henschke, and a drinking-perfectly Langoa Barton ’98 before a crescendo is reached with a Warre’s port from the iconic 1977 vintage. The Expert Series: The 12 Wines of Christmas | Part 2 White & Sweet
Hosted by Richard Bampfield MW, Nancy Gilchrist MW, Richard Pearey & Pauline Vicard Our expertly curated Wines of Christmas explores a scintillating half-dozen whites and stickies. Live From the Vines: Villa Maria
Hosted by Oliver Powrie, Emma Jenkins, Jessica Bell, Paul Robinson, Richard Painter & Patrick Materman As one of the key protagonists in New Zealand’s Sauvignon Blanc phenomenon which lead to such a dramatic tilt in the wine landscape, it’s hard to underplay the imprint of Villa Maria. However, Villa Maria’s story and sheer scope of its practice is far more nuanced and textured, as revealed by Emma Jenkins MW, along with Villa Maria’s chief viticulturist Ollie Powrie, head of winegrowing Patrick Materman and senior Hawkes Bay winemaker Richard Painter. This red-only masterclass features library vintages as well as releases from its Reserve range (which only see the light of day in select years), before culminating in a multi-vintage showing of its iconic, Bordeaux-shaped Ngakirikiri; a wine which palpably demonstrates that, 60 years after its birth, Villa Maria continues to lay down markers. Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, Gimblett Gravels 2002 Library Release Cabernet Sauvignon, Gimblett Gravels 2009 Ngakirikiri, Gimblett Gravels 2013 Ngakirikiri, Gimblett Gravels 2014 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, Gimblett Gravels 2015 Ngakirikiri, Gimblett Gravels 2018Read more -

Live From the Vines: Domaines Schlumberger
Hosted by Ronan Sayburn MS, Séverine Schlumberger & Thomas Schlumberger Established in 1810 and now into its seventh generation of family ownership, Schlumberger is blessed with 130ha of glorious Alsace terroir, over half of which is Grand Cru. Today’s custodians - Séverine and Thomas Schlumberger – tend to their cherished land in exacting and classical fashion, with two franc-comtois horses employed to plough and work the vineyards, while a pair of stonemasons continually maintain the 50km of dry-stone walls built along the contours of slopes which can reach 50°. Séverine and Thomas introduce Ronan Sayburn MS to their dramatically backdropped estate and a line-up of scented wines crafted from noble varietals – Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer – which have helped mould the reputation of both Schlumberger and its homeland. Riesling, Les Princes Abbés 2019 Riesling, Grand Cru Kitterlé 2017 Pinot Gris, Les Princes Abbés 2017 Pinot Gris, Grand Cru Kessler 2015 Gewurztraminer, Les Princes Abbés 2020 Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives, Cuvée Christine 2017Read more -

Live From the Vines: I Greppi
Hosted by Nelson Pari & Dale Rees Heatley I Greppi’s territory is not the golden, undulating hills of picture-postcard Tuscany, but the region’s no less panoramic Bolgheri coastline, without which the Bordeaux-inspired wines which have forged I Greppi’s reputation would be unachievable. Here, the cooling hand of sea breezes allied to the heat-tempering influence of the I Greppi lakes creates a cosseted environment for this 35ha estate’s Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. 67 Pall Mall’s wine buyer Nelson Pari joins I Greppi’s general manager Dale Rees Heatley to explore this harmonious union of the elements. Naturally, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and Rees Heatley has hand-picked a multi-vintage selection of I Greppi’s wines (available to digital members) which give testimony to the Edenic quality of Bolgheri. Live From the Vines: Domaine Guillemot-Michel
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW Located between the two Mâconnais villages of Viré and Clessé, Domaine Guillemot-Michel clearly neither aches to be ahead of the curve nor goes in much for market-led business plans; until 2014 Pierrette Michel and her husband Marc Guillemot- who have run the family estate organically since 1982 and biodynamically since 1991 - only made one, sole wine. Even today the entire range numbers less than a handful, but it’s an inspirational, captivating, jewel of a collection. It includes a cuvée made from 65-year-old vines vinified in 800-litre terracotta amphora, a méthode ancestrale sparkling, plus eau-de-vie produced using old Burgundian stills heated by wood that’s cut and gathered from the local forest by the Guillemot-Michel family themselves. Live From the Vines: E. Guigal
Hosted by Richard Bampfield MW & Philippe Guigal Established in 1946, Guigal is arguably a more recent tenant of a region which – like many others in France – threads its way back to the Romans. Yet, despite its relative precociousness, for much of its existence Guigal has been justifiably framed as Rhône nobility. Guigal’s birthplace is a region in the Rhône’s north where the sun is capable of cascading down onto the vines to such extremes that it gave the appellation its name: Côte Rôtie, or ‘roasted slope’. While the northern Rhône remains its beating heart, in 2017 Guigal spread its wings, incorporating into its stable the Châteauneuf-du-Pape property of Domaine Nalys. The sum of these parts represents a cross section of the Rhône Valley’s preeminent sites, and Philippe Guigal joins Richard Bampfield MW to discuss his family’s adventures and taste the wines which are also available as a tasting kit to our digital members. Guigal, La Doriane, Condrieu 2019 Guigal, Ermitage Ex-Voto Blanc, Hermitage 2016 Guigal, Château de Nalys, Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2018 Guigal, Vignes de l’Hospice, Saint-Joseph 2018 Guigal, Château d’Ampuis, Côte-Rôtie 2017 Guigal, La Mouline, Côte-Rôtie 2016Read more -

In Good Spirits: Delamain Cognac
Hosted by Charles Braastad To trace the history of Delamain is arguably analogous to studying the evolution of Cognac itself. Delamain is now comfortably into its ninth generation of family ownership, with Charles Braastad at the helm of a house whose roots extend back to the mid-18th century, and whose creations are not only exclusively XO, but solely from the premier Cognac region of Grande Champagne. Aside from offering keen insight into one of the spirit world’s most celebrated family institutions, this is a rare-as-hen’s-teeth invitation to taste with Braastad a collection of Delamain’s most important Cognacs such as its iconic Pale & Dry, and its extraordinary single vineyard, single cask Malaville. Live From the Vines: Zuccardi
Hosted by Ronan Sayburn MS & Sebastián Zuccardi A family of Italian immigrants, Zuccardi is one of Argentina’s most innovative and open-minded producers, and it is now captained by third generation Sebastián Zuccardi. ‘Don’t strive for perfect wines, but wines that express the place, the region,’ says Sebastián. To this end, oak is almost entirely eschewed in Zuccardi’s cellars (barriques are a definite no-no), meaning the winery is largely the domain of concrete eggs and amphorae. In conversation with Ronan Sayburn MS, Sebastián explains how this methodology allows Zuccardi’s patchwork of terroirs to stamp their personality on the wines, unencumbered by oak-influenced distractions. This is a brave call in the arena of premium winemaking, but armed with a selection of releases which bear out his convictions (and are available to digital members), it is apparent why the only downside thus far has been the need for an ever-larger awards cabinet. Zuccardi, Fósil, San Pablo, Chardonnay, Valle de Uco, Mendoza 2019 Zuccardi, Concreto, Malbec, Valle de Uco, Mendoza 2018 Zuccardi, José Zuccardi, Malbec, Valle de Uco, Mendoza 2016 Zuccardi, Aluvional, Malbec, Gualtallary, Valle de Uco, Mendoza 2016 Zuccardi, Finca Piedra Infinita, Malbec, Valle de Uco, Mendoza 2016 Zuccardi, Finca Piedra Infinita Supercal, Malbec, Valle de Uco, Mendoza 2015Read more -

For this revelatory tasting, Masters of Wine Jasper Morris and Annne McHale have hand-picked a clutch of superb wines which act as reference points for their respective villages or crus. Live From the Vines: Château Malartic-Lagravière
Hosted by Séverine Bonnie, Jane Anson & Robert Joseph Acquired by the family of Count Hippolyte de Maurès de Malartic at the tail end of the 18th century, Malartic-Lagravière has long been a favourite of many Bordeaux devotees, it regularly demonstrating the touch of a master’s hand with both red and white. This gastronomically flavoured instalment of Live from the Vines introduces us to the Bonnie clan who have been guardians of Malartic-Lagravière since 1997. Biodiversity is a central tenet of the family’s ethos, with this raison d'être allowing the gravel and limestone soils to fully infuse the wines with their profound character. Bordeaux specialist Jane Anson joins Séverine Bonnie in the kitchen to create a pair of Malartic-Lagravière signature dishes, before the wines duly take centre stage in a masterclass where host Jean-Jacques Bonnie joins Jane and fellow luminary Robert Joseph. Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2018 Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2014 Château Malartic-Lagravière Rouge, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2015 Château Malartic-Lagravière Rouge, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2014 Château Malartic-Lagravière Rouge, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2009 Château Malartic-Lagravière Rouge, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2005Read more -

Live From the Vines: C.V.N.E.
Hosted by Sarah Jane Evans MW & Victor Urrutia Back in 2003, ‘tyro’ would have been an apposite description of CVNE’s Victor Urrutia when, at the age of just 29, he accepted a request from his father to become the family company’s CEO. Nigh on two decades later, CVNE has been remoulded, tweaked and transformed into one of Spain’s titans, home to some of Rioja’s most famous wineries including Contino, Imperial and Viña Real. In conversation with Spanish expert Sarah Jane Evans MW, Urrutia talks about CVNE’s journey since it was born in 1879, the landmarks which have shaped it and, most importantly, those vineyards and wine which have been central to it all. To taste CVNE’s wines is to taste Rioja itself, and this compelling chapter of Live from the Vines comes with its own CVNE mini portfolio of wines, allowing you to sample the work of one of the world’s most distinguished producers alongside the very man in charge. Live From the Vines: Zambartas Wineries
Hosted by Demetri Walters MW, Marleen Zambartas, Marcos Zambartas & Christodoulos Karaolis Zambartas is a celebration of heritage and culture, of hands-dirty winemaking and lost varietals. Ostensibly founded in 2006 by Akis Zambartas, its beginnings go back to the 1980s when Akis began scouring his homeland of Cyprus for forgotten indigenous grapes. Today it is Akis’ winemaker son Marcos who runs the family winery alongside his wife Marleen. The pair discuss with Demetri Walters MW how those native varietals remain the driving force behind much of what they do, as illustrated by a selection of wines which include its flagship Margelina - a field blend fusion from one of Cyprus’ few remaining centenarian vineyards. Single Vineyard Xynisteri 2020 Zambartas Maratheftiko 2018 Single Vineyard Margelina 2020 Zambartas Rose 2020 Zambartas Shiraz-Lefkada 2018 Zambartas Xynisteri Commandaria 2011Read more -

Live From the Vines: Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
Hosted by Jane Anson & Nicolas Glumineau Universally regarded as one of the so-called ‘Super Seconds’ and with Latour as next-door neighbour, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande rubs shoulders both figuratively and geographically with Bordeaux’s First Growths. Its standing has been centuries in the making, during which time it has rarely changed hands, the most recent chapter beginning in 2007 when it was acquired by Champagne Louis Roederer. In conversation with Jane Anson, incumbent CEO and winemaker Nicolas Glumineau sketches out the rebirth of an estate whose reputation was founded on the acumen of a string of notable women whose influence reverberates to this day. Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 2018 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 2016 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 2014 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 2006 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 1996 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 1986Read more
