Live From the Vines: Trinity Hill
Hosted by Michael Henley, Warren Gibson & Lucy Pearce 1993 saw the first vines of Trinity Hill being dug into the dusty ground of an ancient riverbed in Hawke’s Bay’s Gimblett Gravels. However, Trinity Hill’s story began a few years previously and thousands of miles away in London’s Bleeding Heart restaurant, when the establishment’s owners entered into a pact with the renowned winemaker John Hancock, all convinced of Hawke’s Bay’s untapped potential. Michael Henley MW joins Incumbent chief winemaker Warren Gibson, who opens an exceptional selection of his wines which encapsulate the ethos of Trinity Hill and are available as a tasting kit to our digital members. The pair discuss Trinity Hill’s pioneering first steps, its evolution into one of New Zealand’s principal producers, the diverse patchwork of Hawke’s Bay terroirs, and the Rhône accent which can be sensed in many of its wines, most notably the imperious Homage which is partially created from vine cuttings sent from Hermitage itself. Live From the Vines: Domaines Schlumberger
Hosted by Ronan Sayburn MS, Séverine Schlumberger & Thomas Schlumberger Established in 1810 and now into its seventh generation of family ownership, Schlumberger is blessed with 130ha of glorious Alsace terroir, over half of which is Grand Cru. Today’s custodians - Séverine and Thomas Schlumberger – tend to their cherished land in exacting and classical fashion, with two franc-comtois horses employed to plough and work the vineyards, while a pair of stonemasons continually maintain the 50km of dry-stone walls built along the contours of slopes which can reach 50°. Séverine and Thomas introduce Ronan Sayburn MS to their dramatically backdropped estate and a line-up of scented wines crafted from noble varietals – Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer – which have helped mould the reputation of both Schlumberger and its homeland. Riesling, Les Princes Abbés 2019 Riesling, Grand Cru Kitterlé 2017 Pinot Gris, Les Princes Abbés 2017 Pinot Gris, Grand Cru Kessler 2015 Gewurztraminer, Les Princes Abbés 2020 Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives, Cuvée Christine 2017Read more -

In Good Spirits: Delamain Cognac
Hosted by Charles Braastad To trace the history of Delamain is arguably analogous to studying the evolution of Cognac itself. Delamain is now comfortably into its ninth generation of family ownership, with Charles Braastad at the helm of a house whose roots extend back to the mid-18th century, and whose creations are not only exclusively XO, but solely from the premier Cognac region of Grande Champagne. Aside from offering keen insight into one of the spirit world’s most celebrated family institutions, this is a rare-as-hen’s-teeth invitation to taste with Braastad a collection of Delamain’s most important Cognacs such as its iconic Pale & Dry, and its extraordinary single vineyard, single cask Malaville. Live From the Vines: Château Malartic-Lagravière
Hosted by Séverine Bonnie, Jane Anson & Robert Joseph Acquired by the family of Count Hippolyte de Maurès de Malartic at the tail end of the 18th century, Malartic-Lagravière has long been a favourite of many Bordeaux devotees, it regularly demonstrating the touch of a master’s hand with both red and white. This gastronomically flavoured instalment of Live from the Vines introduces us to the Bonnie clan who have been guardians of Malartic-Lagravière since 1997. Biodiversity is a central tenet of the family’s ethos, with this raison d'être allowing the gravel and limestone soils to fully infuse the wines with their profound character. Bordeaux specialist Jane Anson joins Séverine Bonnie in the kitchen to create a pair of Malartic-Lagravière signature dishes, before the wines duly take centre stage in a masterclass where host Jean-Jacques Bonnie joins Jane and fellow luminary Robert Joseph. Live From the Vines: Sula Vineyards
Hosted by Rajeev Samant, Kerry Damskey & Steve Daniel Up until 1996, the Indian province of Nashik was virgin wine territory, yet today it is considered the wine capital of India. It was Sula’s founder Rajeev Samant who envisioned a new future for the region, planted its first wine grapes and triggered Nashik’s remarkable ascent to the pinnacle of Indian winemaking. This is what Sula does, it blazes trails, and this is a rare opportunity to go behind the cellar doors and taste a clutch of its wines, alongside not only Samant but also Sula’s master winemaker Kerry Damskey. Hear the reasoning behind that monumental leap of faith and what these figureheads of Sula see in their crystal ball, not just for Sula but also the entire Indian wine scene. It’s no doubt a future they will play a hand in mapping. Deep Dive Bordeaux: Biodynamic Viticulture
Hosted by Jane Anson, Florence Cathiard, Daniel Cathiard, Yann Laudeho Leroy, Justine Tesseron, Bérénice Lurton, Frédéric Nivelle & Yuanjun Zhang While Bordeaux may not have carved out a name for itself as a hotbed of biodynamic viticulture, there exist a clutch of producers who have been quietly guided by its principles for years; furthermore, these are not boutique, artisanal operations, but some of the world’s most distinguished names such as Smith Haut Lafitte, Palmer and Latour. Dipping into this world of lunar calendars, compost preparations and fruit-versus-root days, Jane Anson speaks to Bordeaux’s biodynamic pioneer, Pontet-Canet, to hear how this once-considered extreme practice is achievable in such a capricious climate, and sits down with Yuanjun Zhang, wine buyer and sommelier at Bordeaux’s Tchin Tchin Wine Bar, for a tasting of superlative wines from these top-flight properties. In Good Spirits: 58 Gin
Hosted by Amelia Singer & Carmen O'Neal 58 Gin essentially takes its name from 57 failed distillations which, for managing director Carmen O’Neal, didn’t quite hit the bullseye. The following run however was a triumph worth honouring. Ensconced in a London railway arch, the ‘Gin from the Heart’ sustainable ethos of 58 Gin can be detected every step of the way – even the apples and sloes (once they’ve fulfilled their primary purpose) are turned into crumble desserts. Wine educator Amelia Singer pays a visit to discover what makes this gin artisan tick. Rolling up her sleeves she mans the production line to concoct her own potion, before settling in at the bar with an array of gins which are also available as a tasting kit to digital members. The Expert Series: A comparison of the wine tasting approaches of a Sommelier and a Master of Wine
Hosted by Richard Bampfield MW & Zsofi Kiss Much has been written about the differences between the Master Sommelier and Master of Wine exams, in particular the approach to wine tasting. And yet it is likely that most sommeliers know little about the MW approach…….and vice-versa. In this episode of The Expert Series, join Zsofi Kiss, 67 Pall Mall’s Assistant Head Sommelier, and Richard Bampfield MW for a comparative tasting, each in the manner taught by their separate organisations. Who knows? maybe they will have more in common than we think… Homonna, Hatari, Tokaji Furmint, Tokaj 2016 (Please note that due to availability, a different vintage is being tasted in the episode than what is included in the wine kit) Felton Road, Block 6, Chardonnay, Central Otago 2017 (Please note that due to availability, a different vintage is being tasted in the episode than what is included in the wine kit) Weingut Sybille Kuntz, Organic Trocken Orange, Riesling Mosel 2017 Fèlsina Berardenga, Colonia, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2009 Château Pichon-Longueville-Baron, 2ème Cru Classé, Pauillac 1996 Kikelet Pince, Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos, Tokaj 2013Read more -

The Expert Series: The Joy of Muscat
Hosted by Demetri Walters MW & Sarah Jane Evans MW Join Demetri Walters MW and Sarah Jane Evans MW for a celebration of Muscat, a very ancient grape that has a distinct personality. In all its forms, whether dry, sweet, or fortified sweet, Muscat is pungently aromatic and distinct. Known to the ancient Greeks, as well as other key winemaking cultures around the Mediterranean world, Muscat has endured for millennia, but is still not taken sufficiently seriously by those who aren't so familiar with it. Be part of its renaissance with tasting various well known wine styles to illustrate the point, led expertly by Demetri.
