Live From the Vines: Boekenhoutskloof Winery
Hosted by Ronan Sayburn MS Although established in 1776, the modern-day tale of Boekenhoutskloof began in 1993 when the farm acquired new owners who embarked on a head-to-toe refurbishment. This included not only a finely tuned vineyard planting programme, but also the (ongoing) acquisition of 2,500-litre foudres made from Austrian oak and numbered in the same ‘Platform 9 & ¾’ font à la Harry Potter. Technical director Marc Kent joins Ronan Sayburn MS to discuss the story of Boekenhoutskloof and sample a selection of wines which are available as a tasting kit to digital members. It’s a tantalising line-up which includes the much-adored The Chocolate Block as well Porseleinberg - Kent’s new premium Syrah project which already stands as one of South Africa’s most highly regarded takes on the grape. Live from the Vines: La Rioja Alta
Hosted by Sarah Jane Evans MW, Guillermo de Aranzabal & Julio Sáenz Founded towards the tail-end of the 19th century, La Rioja Alta has for generations proved itself as one of Rioja’s standard bearers, famous not only for its classically sculpted wines and the extended ageing they undertake, but also its on-site cooperage which at any given time is home to around 30,000 barrels. In conversation with La Rioja Alta’s winemaker Julio Sáenz and its president Guillermo de Aranzabal, Spanish expert Sarah Jane Evans MW is afforded rare access, exploring the rich heritage and ceaseless innovation of this Rioja legend. It is a revelatory tale, perfectly framed by a tasting featuring two of its most sought after and illustrious wines: Torre de Oña Finca Martelo and La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904. Live from the Vines: Kutch Wines
Hosted by Jamie Kutch & Ronan Sayburn MS Ronan Sayburn MS journeys to the Sonoma Coast of California in this edition of ‘Live from the Vines’, where he meets Jamie Kutch, the ambitious owner of Kutch Vineyards who left a lucrative career in stock trading in 2005 to make the leap into the world of winemaking. Live from the Vines: Eyrie Vineyards
£90.00Hosted by Jason Lett & Chevonne Ball ‘I cannot help but feel now that success will be ours,’ reads a 1965 journal entry by The Eyrie Vineyards’ founder, David Lett. Lett’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay plantings represented a first for Willamette Valley, so success was by no means assured, yet both varieties are now synonymous with the region. David and his wife Diana were also the first to commercially plant Pinot Gris outside of Europe, and it’s this pioneering spirit which their son Jason preserves to this day, as evinced by a head-turning bottling of pure Pinot Meunier. Hosted by US sommelier and expert Chevonne Ball, Jason discusses his hands-off winemaking approach which incorporates natural fermentation with wild yeasts, skin contact for the whites, and barely a trace of new oak in the cellar, as demonstrated by the presence of a dozen barrels bought almost 50 years ago and which are still going strong. Live from the Vines: The Blank Bottle Winery
Hosted by Pieter Walser & Ronan Sayburn MS To understand the philosophy behind Blank Bottle Winery we trace its roots back to owner and winemaker Pieter Walser’s first customer. A woman visited his office 12 years ago, saying that she wanted to buy some wine, and that she liked everything apart from Shiraz. She then tasted some wine, loved it, and bought three cases. It was Shiraz. We join Pieter to understand more about why he says he wants nothing on his labels about the grape variety. The Expert Series: Germany | Riesling
Hosted by Anne Krebiehl MW Germany was always considered to be one of the finest wine-producing countries in the world, with Riesling prices similar to those of first growth Bordeaux in the early 1900’s. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, German wines fell out of fashion mainly due to the pursuit of higher yields. However, this wine producing nation had made a comeback and seeks to retake its position at the top table of fine wine production. Join Anne Krebiehl MW who will offer her expert guidance on the stunning vines of Germany. Live From the Vines: Keermont
£85.00Hosted by Cathy van Zyl MW & Alex Starey Since its 2003 inception, Keermont has been guided by having the highest regard for the integrity and delicate nature of its surrounding land; it just so happens to have made spectacular wines along the way. Vines are often squeezed into nooks and crannies on its patch of the Blaauwklippen Valley, where Keermont has weeded out alien plant species, nurtured the indigenous, and planted just under 30ha of vineyards, setting aside a further 100ha solely for conservation. Live From the Vines: Yalumba
Hosted by Nick Ryan, Louisa Rose, Robert Hill Smith & Jessica Hill Smith It was in 1849 that Dorset-born Samuel Smith dug in his first vines in Australia’s Barossa. Five generations later, Yalumba is still family-owned, helmed by Robert Hill-Smith, and continues to negotiate - with seemingly consummate ease - the tightrope between commercial success and spectacular fine wines. Hosted by Australian wine expert Nick Ryan alongside Jessica Hill Smith and head winemaker Louisa Rose, this exploration of a New World superstar looks back at Yalumba’s trailblazing past, its unflinching innovation, and cracks open a range of wines which have forged its reputation. Available as a tasting kit to digital members, this is an opportunity to taste its glorious Viognier, The Virgilius, an old-vine Shiraz in the form of The Octavius, and its stellar, archetypal Cab-Shiraz blend, The Caley, regarded as ‘the pinnacle of a long winemaking journey of excellence.’ Yalumba The Virgilius Viognier, Eden Valley 2018 Yalumba The Tri-Centenary Grenache, Barossa Valley 2017 Yalumba The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz, Barossa Valley 2016 Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Shiraz, Barossa Valley 2016 Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Shiraz, Barossa Valley 2012 Yalumba The Caley Cabernet Shiraz, Coonawarra and Barossa 2016Read more -

Live From the Vines: Château Talbot
Hosted by Jane Anson & Jean-Michel Laporte Château Talbot is one of several famous châteaux whose name highlights the influence on Bordeaux of those from beyond France’s shores which, in the case of this Fourth Growth, was Earl of Shrewsbury, John Talbot. For a shade over 100 years, Talbot has been owned by the Cordier family, a Bordeaux dynasty who in 2018 installed Jean-Michel Laporte (formerly of La Conseillante in Pomerol) as general director and winemaker. This episode of Live from the Vines sees Bordeaux expert Jane Anson meet Laporte at Talbot in the heart of Saint-Julien. Laporte not only celebrates Talbot’s heritage, uncorking a selection of library vintages, but also discusses the estate’s direction on his watch, including the 2018 release which marks a century of Cordier ownership. Live From the Vines: Zuccardi
Hosted by Ronan Sayburn MS & Sebastián Zuccardi A family of Italian immigrants, Zuccardi is one of Argentina’s most innovative and open-minded producers, and it is now captained by third generation Sebastián Zuccardi. ‘Don’t strive for perfect wines, but wines that express the place, the region,’ says Sebastián. To this end, oak is almost entirely eschewed in Zuccardi’s cellars (barriques are a definite no-no), meaning the winery is largely the domain of concrete eggs and amphorae. In conversation with Ronan Sayburn MS, Sebastián explains how this methodology allows Zuccardi’s patchwork of terroirs to stamp their personality on the wines, unencumbered by oak-influenced distractions. This is a brave call in the arena of premium winemaking, but armed with a selection of releases which bear out his convictions (and are available to digital members), it is apparent why the only downside thus far has been the need for an ever-larger awards cabinet. Live From the Vines: C.V.N.E.
Hosted by Sarah Jane Evans MW & Victor Urrutia Back in 2003, ‘tyro’ would have been an apposite description of CVNE’s Victor Urrutia when, at the age of just 29, he accepted a request from his father to become the family company’s CEO. Nigh on two decades later, CVNE has been remoulded, tweaked and transformed into one of Spain’s titans, home to some of Rioja’s most famous wineries including Contino, Imperial and Viña Real. In conversation with Spanish expert Sarah Jane Evans MW, Urrutia talks about CVNE’s journey since it was born in 1879, the landmarks which have shaped it and, most importantly, those vineyards and wine which have been central to it all. To taste CVNE’s wines is to taste Rioja itself, and this compelling chapter of Live from the Vines comes with its own CVNE mini portfolio of wines, allowing you to sample the work of one of the world’s most distinguished producers alongside the very man in charge. Live From the Vines: Zambartas Wineries
Hosted by Demetri Walters MW, Marleen Zambartas, Marcos Zambartas & Christodoulos Karaolis Zambartas is a celebration of heritage and culture, of hands-dirty winemaking and lost varietals. Ostensibly founded in 2006 by Akis Zambartas, its beginnings go back to the 1980s when Akis began scouring his homeland of Cyprus for forgotten indigenous grapes. Today it is Akis’ winemaker son Marcos who runs the family winery alongside his wife Marleen. The pair discuss with Demetri Walters MW how those native varietals remain the driving force behind much of what they do, as illustrated by a selection of wines which include its flagship Margelina - a field blend fusion from one of Cyprus’ few remaining centenarian vineyards.
