Jasper on Terroir: Volnay 1er Cru
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW ‘Volnay is my wine,’ says Jasper Morris MW, our lead for this masterclass dedicated to one of Burgundy’s red-wine treasures; certainly, the fragrance and gossamer touch of Volnay can leave an indelible impression. Starting out among the vines, Morris unpicks the intricacies of Volnay’s sloped premier cru vineyards, some laced with limestone, others sitting on beds of clay. To further elucidate their distinguishing marks and individual charms, we’re introduced to a line-up of textbook Volnay from Morris’ most cherished spots including Clos des Chênes, Les Taillepieds, and the centenarian vines of Domaine des Comtes Lafon’s Champans. Jasper on Terroir: Chassagne-Montrachet under the microscope
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW & Thierry Pillot Are you a Puligny person or a Meursault fan? Hang on, what about Chassagne? The appellation is sometimes criticised because there is too much red wine territory which has been set to producing chardonnay, but the best parts of the village can make magical wines. Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Boudriotte 2017 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Vergers 2018 Thomas Morey, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Vide Bourse 2017 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Caillerets 2017 Domaine Lamy-Caillat, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Champs Gain 2017 Domaine Paul Pillot, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, La Romanée 2016Read more -

Live from the Vines: Château Angélus
Hosted by Jane Anson & Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal Château Angélus has been owned by the Boüard de Laforest family since 1782 and takes its name from the Angélus bells from three different churches that are audible from the vineyards. Less than a kilometre from the famous Saint-Emilion bell tower, situated on the much-vaunted south-facing “foot of the hill”, Angélus has been the life work of eight generations of the Boüard de Laforest family. We speak with Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, the third woman to preside over the fortunes of Château Angélus. Deep Dive Bordeaux: Pomerol 2.0

Jane Anson, author of Inside Bordeaux, is perfectly placed to shine a light on this vibrant, relatively young region, including the dominance of the Merlot grape, the ‘garage’ movement of the 1990s, Pomerol’s unique blue clay soils and, of course, those red-carpet châteaux. Deep Dive Bordeaux: Pessac-Léognan
Hosted by Jane Anson The soils of Pessac-Léognan – awash with sand and gravel – arguably provided the genesis of what is today the world’s most celebrated and marketable region: Bordeaux. In 1305, the man who was to become Pope Pape Clément V planted the first vineyard on the estate now known as Château Pape Clément, while in the mid-17th century, the then owners of Château Haut Brion - the only non-Médoc classed growth and where grapes have been cultivated since Roman times – opened an eponymous tavern in London (the Pontac’s Head) as a means of promoting and selling its wines. This is an extraordinary opportunity to taste from these two historic properties as well as four of its esteemed peers. Lead by Bordeaux specialist Jane Anson, this tour of Pessac examines its history, climate and terroir which have coalesced to create not only phenomenal red wines but superlative whites as well. Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2014 Château de Fieuzal Blanc, Pessac-Léognan 2019 Château Latour-Martillac, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2012 Château Pape Clément, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2012 Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2012 Château Haut-Brion, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan 2012Read more -
Jasper on Vintage: 2017 – Red
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW Mother Nature takes Burgundy’s vignerons on a white-knuckle ride at the best of times, and in 2016 she was in full flow, with frost driving down yields and leading to an army of jittery winemakers the following year, not least as it appeared 2017 was heading in the same direction. Fortunately, the vintage altered course and the wines of 2017 have been widely lauded, and while it’s the whites which have largely taken the glory, an abundance of terroir-driven, light on their feet and engaging reds have emerged from the year. Bringing his reservoirs of wisdom and expertise to bear, Jasper Morris MW marks your card for this fabulous vintage, adding flesh to the headlines and zeroing in on the appellations to note, proving once again he is your first port of call before any cellars are stocked. Domaine Launay-Horiot, Pommard Village, Les Perrières 2017 Domaine Michel Lafarge, Volnay Premier Cru, Clos des Chênes 2017 Domaine Henri Gouges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, Clos des Porrets-St-Georges 2017 Domaine Jean Grivot, Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, Les Beaux Monts 2017 Domaine Hudelot-Baillet, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru 2017 Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, Les Goulots 2017Read more -

Deep Dive Bordeaux: Saint-Julien
Hosted by Jane Anson Continuing her exploration of Bordeaux’s headline appellations, we find Jane Anson, author of Inside Bordeaux, among the vines of Saint-Julien. This may be the smallest of the Médoc’s heavy-hitting communes, but it’s one which punches above its weight, with more than three quarters of its vineyards being classed-growth terroir. Through the lens of the legendary 2010 vintage, Anson reflects on the history, soil, location and most celebrated names of Saint-Julien, concluding with her selection of vintage standouts which are available as a tasting kit to digital members. The wines that we will taste: Château Gloria, Saint Julien, 2010 Château Lagrange, Saint-Julien 2010 Château Talbot, Quatrième Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2010 Château Beychevelle, Quatrième Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2010 Château Langoa-Barton, Troisième Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2010 Château Leoville Poyferre, Saint-Julien 2010Read more -
Jasper on Vintage: 2015 – Red
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW 2015 ranks as one of Burgundy’s preeminent red vintages of recent times, with more than a smattering of stardust to be found along the region’s Route des Grand Crus. Yet, despite the lauded nature of the year, the empirical observations of Jasper Morris MW are no less crucial. In this episode, Morris delivers his verdict on 2015, cherry-picking a handful of wines from key appellations to make his case, while reviewing the vintage’s talking points, explain what to look out for, and how much staying power you can expect from this celebrated year. Benjamin Leroux, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru, Les Champeaux 2015 Thibault Liger-Belair, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, Les Gruenchers 2015 Domaine Michele & Patrice Rion, Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru, Clos des Argillieres 2015 Bouchard Pere & Fils, Corton Grand Cru 2015 Domaine Francois Buffet, Volnay 1er Cru, Clos de la Rougeotte 2015 Comte Armand, Pommard Premier Cru, Clos des Epeneaux Monopole 2015Read more -
Jasper on Vintage: 2017 – White
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW Despite early, ominous signs of a frost-hit rerun of 2016 - and the mass burning of hay bales to avoid just that - 2017 dramatically changed course to become one of white Burgundy’s stars of the last decade. Making full use of his ample knowledge and far-reaching connections, Jasper Morris MW delivers his evaluation of the year, digging around amongst the minutiae of the vintage, and casting his eye over the producers and appellations who thrived against the odds, not least Chablis which, while still badly bruised by a wave of frost, delivered one of the standout successes of an already lauded year. Domaine A & P de Villaine, Rully, Les Saint-Jacques 2017 Domaine Samuel Billaud, Chablis Premier Cru, Montée de Tonnerre 2017 Domaine Ballot-Millot & Fils, Meursault Premier Cru, Charmes 2017 Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Champs-Gains 2017 Domaine Jacques Carillon, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Champs Canet 2017 Domaine Bruno Clair, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2017Read more -
Live from the Vines: Domaine Ponsot
Hosted by Alexandre Abel & Jasper Morris MW Integrity courses through Ponsot, be that in its approach in the vineyard, or the relationship it enjoys with its many adorers. Regards the former, the Ponsot practice more than dips into both organic and biodynamic viticulture (although Ponsot eschews these tags). As to the latter, if it feels the wines are not up to scratch then Ponsot will reduce the price, as was the case for virtually the entire 1994 vintage. Alternatively, as Ponsot says, ‘we send it to the distillery, as we did for the Morey Clos des Monts Luisants 1993 and 2012.’ Master of Wine Jasper Morris visits this beacon of Burgundy, discussing Ponsot’s at-times controversial ethos with its chief winemaker Alexandre Abel and the family’s fifth-generation winegrower William Ponsot. It is an engrossing insight into the inner workings of an unflinchingly exacting property, culminating in a spectacular, multi-vintage tasting of its sublime Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, which is also available to our digital members as a tasting kit. Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2017 Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2013 Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2010 Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2006 Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2001 Domaine Ponsot, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 1999Read more
