Live from the Vines: Eyrie Vineyards
Hosted by Jason Lett & Chevonne Ball ‘I cannot help but feel now that success will be ours,’ reads a 1965 journal entry by The Eyrie Vineyards’ founder, David Lett. Lett’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay plantings represented a first for Willamette Valley, so success was by no means assured, yet both varieties are now synonymous with the region. David and his wife Diana were also the first to commercially plant Pinot Gris outside of Europe, and it’s this pioneering spirit which their son Jason preserves to this day, as evinced by a head-turning bottling of pure Pinot Meunier. Hosted by US sommelier and expert Chevonne Ball, Jason discusses his hands-off winemaking approach which incorporates natural fermentation with wild yeasts, skin contact for the whites, and barely a trace of new oak in the cellar, as demonstrated by the presence of a dozen barrels bought almost 50 years ago and which are still going strong.
