Intimate dinner with Barolo stalwart Pio Cesare – Friday 15th March

In a treat for lovers of Italian wine, we are thrilled to invite Members to a rather special evening celebrating one of the trailblazers of Piedmont, Pio Cesare.

Ever since it establishment in 1881 by its visionary founder, Cesare Pio, the family-owned estate Alba estate has played a key role in elevating Barolo’s status on the international stage. In the 1980s, Pio Boffa, the founder’s great grandson, cemented the winery’s reputation as a modern producer when he incorporated single-vineyard wines into its production, ensuring it would not be seen merely as part of the area’s ‘old guard’.

After Boffa’s untimely passing in 2021, his daughter Federica took over the management of the estate at the tender age of 23. Today, with the help of her cousin Cesare Benvenuto, she directs the winery with the same passion and vigour as her late father.

We are thrilled to welcome Federica to the Club for an intimate dinner in the Club’s private dining room, during which we will taste a selection of Pio Cesare wines showcasing a modern interpretation of Piemonte’s individual sites, including some older vintages.

The evening will begin with Federica telling the story of the estate’s history and philosophy over its limited-edition Vermouth di Torino and the latest releases of its core Barolo and Barbareso. Among the wines served with dinner will be the Piodilei Chardonnay (one of the first serous Chardonnays ever released in Italy, back in in the 1980s); the 2020 Barolo Mosconi (awarded 99 points by James Suckling) and a few older vintages of Barolo and Barbaresco coming directly from the Family’s private Cellar.

We hope to see you there.
