Discovering the Terroir of Turangawaewae (New Zealand) – Thursday 13th February
Mention New Zealand wine and most people will undoubtedly think of Sauvignon Blanc, perhaps Pinot Noir, but we are willing to bet that “terroir” probably won’t be the first word that springs to mind.
To continue our series of events that deliver the unexpected, on February 13th, we will be organising a masterclass that will provide you with a new perspective on New Zealand viticulture.
In 1988, the Glover family were among the first to plant vineyards in Dillon’s Point, a sub-region of the better-known Marlborough appellation. Far from newcomers to the area, the Glover family had farmed the land for over four generations, however, convinced that their farm, which stretches along the Opawa River, would be well-suited to viticulture, they set about converting their property.
Today, led by Ben Glover, the estate produces a range of impressive single vineyard wines under the name Zephyr, meaning “gentle breeze”, which is a nod to the prevailing wind that tempers their vineyards throughout the year. Join us for a fascinating masterclass that will dig deep into the terroir of Turangawaewae and change your perspective on New Zealand wines.
Masterclass in (kiwi) English, with translation available.
