Discovering Piedmont – Thursday 17th October – Sunday 20th October

The often fog-shrouded Piedmont is an epicurean nirvana, notable for its truffles, hazelnuts, meats and cheeses. Then there’s the wine… We are very much looking forward to Members joining us as we enter the realm of Nebbiolo. And when you think Nebbiolo you think Barolo and Barbaresco. And when you think of those you think Gaja, which will be just one stop on Members’ Piedmont adventure.

Residing in a jaw-dropping spot in the hills of the Langhe, Members will be making memories, formed by – amongst other special moments – lunches and tastings with preeminent creators of Barolo, Barbaresco and other iconic wines, a white truffle dinner within the walls of a magnificent 11th century castle, and the talents of a Michelin-starred chef.

Members’ hub for our very special trip to Piedmont is the stunning Villa d’Amelia. Sitting in the heart of the Langhe and a short distance from the town of Alba, Villa d’Amelia was born from the sensitive but masterly renovation of the 19th-century Cascina Bonelli. It sits on the ridge of a hill between luscious woods and spectacular hazelnut groves, with a breathtaking view of the Alps to boot.

Thursday 17th October
– Guests arrive in Milan, meeting in front of our centralled placed hotel for 10am, when we head to Barolo by private coach.
– Tour and lunch at Domenico Clerico.
– After lunch, we make our way to Villa d’Amelia for a late-afternoon check-in.
– The evening will begin with a one-hour presentation at 7pm, where Members will discover all about the Langhe wine region. This will be followed by dinner and a tasting in the hotel.

Friday 18th October
– Having enjoyed the hotel breakfast, we leave at 9am for a tour and tasting at Gaja, before moving onwards to Marchesi di Gresy for a tour and light lunch with paired wines.
– After lunch, Members will have time to stroll around the village of Barbaresco and take in the outstanding view from its tower, before returning to Villa d’Amelia.
– Once back at the hotel, Members will have a couple of hours to put their feet up, prior to a 6.30pm departure for a white truffle dinner at Castello di Grinzane.

Saturday 19th October
– Following breakfast in the hotel, our destination will be G. D. Vajra  and its polished, delicious wines.
– Members will then be taken to Ceretto for a tour and light lunch, before making their way back to the hotel, where they can relax and further enjoy its beautiful gardens and surroundings.
– In late afternoon, Members will be driven to a nearby organic farm for a cheese tasting, then dinner will be served (with paired wines) at the Michelin-starred La Ciau del Tornavento.

Sunday 20th October
– After one final breakfast, we check out and meet at reception for a 10am departure, bound for the town of Alba which will be hosting a truffle festival.
Following that, Members will enjoy a one-hour cooking show with a Michelin-starred chef and be served with an aperitif and a dish prepared by the chef. The show will take place in the Cortile della Maddalena, a courtyard, park and garden right in the heart of the village.
– Members’ time is then all their own before we board our private coach and make for Milan at 3pm, perhaps enjoying a couple of glasses on the back seats and bringing the curtain down on what will have been a trip to remember…
