Walkaround tasting of Swiss wines – Monday 10th November
For one night only, we are bringing the Alps to the St. James’s Room for a wide-ranging, walkaround tasting of Swiss wines. Members will have the opportunity to sample around 100 wines from more than 20 producers, representing all six of Switzerland’s wine regions. Several of the winemakers will be there in person to share their stories and guide you through the country’s remarkable Alpine terroir.
The evening forms part of Swiss Wine Week London, organised by Swiss Wine Ambassador and Club Member Simon Hardy DipWSET on behalf of Swiss Wine Promotion, who will also be in attendance. A selection of authentic Swiss cheeses will be served alongside the wines, completing the Alpine experience.
Members can expect to explore Switzerland’s diversity of grapes – from native classics like Chasselas and Cornalin, to rare discoveries such as Räuschling and Galotta, as well as familiar varieties including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot. The tasting offers a glimpse into Switzerland’s ‘heroic viticulture’ – where steep slopes, mountain microclimates and craftsmanship combine to produce wines of exceptional purity and character.
Switzerland’s vineyards are roughly the same size as Alsace but, as the country consumes almost all the wine it produces, only a small proportion makes it to the rest of the world. We are proud to have long offered a wide selection of Swiss wines here in London, while our Alpine home in Verbier has one of the most comprehensive lists of Swiss wines to be found.
Members will also have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the newly published Switzerland – The Smart Traveller’s Wine Guide from the Académie du Vin Library, co-authored by Simon Hardy and Marc Checkley. Copies can be collected at the tasting, where both authors will be present to personally sign your book.
