Master of Wine Anne Krebiehl’s comprehensive tour of Germany’s vineyards has already schooled us in the country’s wonderful iterations of Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.
This latest stage sees her tread a less-worn path, bringing into prominence Silvaner, Scheurebe and Lemberger.
Despite their inconspicuous standing today, these varietals boast proud histories – Silvaner was first planted here in the mid-17th century – and are capable of greatness.
