Chenin Blanc has a strong claim to being the most versatile grape variety in the world, capable of making everything from sparkling wine to dry whites, through to demi-sec and rich botrytised styles. All too often, though, it seems to play second fiddle to Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc or even the notoriously abused Riesling.
So for those still needing to be convinced, when better to celebrate the variety than on Chenin Blanc Day? And where better to turn to for that celebration than the grape’s headquarters – the beautiful Loire Valley. So on Friday 16th June, we invite you to join Rebecca Gibb MW, Loire critic for Vinous, for a convivial session exploring the many nuances of the variety, whether on the schistous soils of the Anjou or the limestones of Saumur.
The hand of the winemaker is also a major influence on the contents of your glass and you’ll discover first-hand the challenges facing growers in today’s climate, as we are delighted to welcome Sarah Hwang, family owner of the legendary Domaine Huët to join us for the tasting.
Rebecca Gibb is a Master of Wine, author, and editor for Vinous, covering the Loire Valley and New Zealand. She became a Master of Wine in 2015 and, in a record class of 24 graduates, was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award as well as the Bollinger Medal in recognition of her outstanding tasting ability. What’s more, she has promised to bring a ‘mystery bottle’ to the tasting, which we are assured will be something special…
Book your tickets now for what promises to be a memorable evening.
