Raymond Blake’s Burgundy
Join our fellow Member and part-time Burgundy resident, Raymond Blake, as he takes us on a virtual visit to the world’s most celebrated wine region. Raymond spent 10 days over New Year in Burgundy, out and about in the vineyards and visiting cellars, as well as attending to matters culinary – cooking the seasonal capon on New Year’s Day – and investigating whether it matches better with red or white wine.
Thanks to Raymond’s insider knowledge we will get ‘behind the labels’ to learn the back-story of the wines we taste. Members can expect an informal wine tasting, rather than a structured masterclass, focusing on the people and the place as much as the wine in your glass. Illustrated with his own photographs and presented by way of tale and anecdote, Raymond’s presentation will both entertain and inform.
He will also have an up-to-the-minute report on the just-released 2019 vintage from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti – known as ‘DRC’ across the wine world but always simply as ‘The Domaine’ to Burgundy insiders.
The Wines that will be tasted:
2016 Puligny-Montrachet, 1er Cru, Les Folatieres, Domaine Jean Chartron
2018 Saint-Aubin, 1er Cru, En Montceau, Domaine Marc Colin et Fils
