Premier Cru Beaune with Charles Curtis MW – Saturday 24th October
The charming, historic town of Beaune is the focal point of any trip to Burgundy – yet collectors all too often overlook the superb wines made within the appellation of the same name.
As ever in Burgundy, Beaune’s vineyard landscape is complex, with undulating hills rising from the outskirts of town and a total of 42 climats within the city limits classified as premier cru.
Join us as we explore the riches of the appellation via several of these, in both red and white – from Beaune Bressandes and Beaune Grèves to the famous Clos des Mouches via Aigrots, Teurons and more. We’ll taste 14 wines in all, spanning famous cuvées from top-end négociant houses such as Bouchard and Drouhin to those of smaller domaines such as Lafarge, Rapet and the brand new Vignoble des Cabottes.
Members who have attended one of Charles’ previous events at the Club will know they’re in for an entertaining night. Based in New York, Charles became a Master of Wine in 2004 and is the former head of wine for Christie’s auction house in both the Americas and Asia. The author of The Original Grands Crus of Burgundy, he is now Decanter’s Burgundy correspondent.
We are delighted to welcome him back to the Club for another whistlestop tour of a classic yet arguably under-rated Burgundy appellation.
