Ataraxia is Greek for ‘a serene state of mind, free from worry and preoccupation’, which gives you a sense of the doctrine being pursued at this family-owned winery in South Africa’s Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
The work of husband-and-wife team Kevin and Hanli Grant, Ataraxia began life in 2004 and, for now, covers just 12ha. Situated less than 5km from the Atlantic Ocean, its wines are sculpted by the cooling aspects of both altitude and coast, not to mention the underfoot terrain which is some of the oldest in the world.
Kevin and Hanli invite William Lowe MW to discuss the untamed beauty and personality of this pocket of coastal South Africa, and to sample their hand-crafted wines which are also available as a tasting kit to digital members.
