Burgundy in focus with Xavier Monnot – Monday 9th June
We’re trying not to make this a habit – but every so often, an opportunity arises at short notice that we simply can’t pass up. And such is the case with Marc Hubert Monnot of Domaine Xavier Monnot, who, on a flying visit to London, has kindly offered to host an informal, stand-up tasting for Members in the Marlborough Room on Monday evening.
Marc is the next generation at Domaine Xavier Monnot, a 17-hectare estate in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, with top vineyard holdings in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Pommard and Volnay. The domaine has deep roots – Marc’s father, Xavier, took over in 1994, continuing the family lineage from Domaine René Monnier and shaping it into one of Burgundy’s most respected contemporary producers.
Xavier’s approach combines young and old vines, blending the fruity intensity of the young vines and the depth and complicity of the older ones, with one guiding principle – ‘a vineyard must be maintained like a golf course’ – and a thoughtful use of oak to allow the terroir to shine. The result is a range of wines that are elegant, expressive and increasingly sought after by collectors.
Marc will lead Members through a tasting of six wines across two intimate sessions in the Marlborough Room, with only a handful of places available at each.
The wines we’ll be tasting:
2021 Bourgogne Chardonnay, Grandes Coutures, Domaine Xavier Monnot
2022 Chassagne-Montrachet, Domaine Xavier Monnot
2022 Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Xavier Monnot
2021 Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Domaine Xavier Monnot
2020 Pommard Les Vignots, Domaine Xavier Monnot
2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes, Domaine Xavier Monnot
