Mother Nature takes Burgundy’s vignerons on a white-knuckle ride at the best of times, and in 2016 she was in full flow, with frost driving down yields and leading to an army of jittery winemakers the following year, not least as it appeared 2017 was heading in the same direction.
Fortunately, the vintage altered course and the wines of 2017 have been widely lauded, and while it’s the whites which have largely taken the glory, an abundance of terroir-driven, light on their feet and engaging reds have emerged from the year.
