Face to face: Bordeaux from 2010 and 2020 – Wednesday 4th November
When it comes to Bordeaux, there is huge interest right now in the wealth of attractively priced mature vintages that can be found on today’s market. And with that in mind, we have an evening that offers a rare opportunity to compare two exceptional years.
Bordeaux’s Union des Grands Crus brings together some of the most esteemed estates from across the region, representing Pessac-Léognan to Pomerol, Saint-Emilion to Saint-Estèphe. We’re delighted to be hosting the association for a walkaround tasting with 28 such producers, each showing two wines, largely from the 2010 and 2020 vintages.
On release, 2010 was one of the most eagerly heralded Bordeaux vintages of the century so far – powerful, profound wines that are only today starting to unfurl. 2020, meanwhile, was the final vintage of the acclaimed 2018-2019-2020 trilogy, hailed for a freshness and balance that complemented a well-structured core. Tasting both vintages side by side will be a fascinating exercise, not least to inform any purchasing – or drinking – decisions over the festive period.
Members will also have the opportunity to hear from the producers themselves, with each estate represented by a member of the owning family or winemaking team. Among those attending are Alexander van Beek of Château Giscours, Lilian Barton Sartorius of Langoa-Barton and Marina Cazes of Lynch Bages, Haut-Batailley and Ormes de Pez, along with the president of the UGCB, Francois Xavier Maroteaux of Branaire Ducru.
