An evening at Glyndebourne – Friday 5th June
At the beginning of June, we invite Members to join us for one of the most cherished traditions of the English summer calendar – Glyndebourne. This afternoon and evening will combine world-class opera, a refined picnic with fine wines, set within the beautiful gardens of Glyndebourne in the South Downs.
The opera performance of Friday 5th June will be Rossini’s ‘Il turco in Italia’ – an energetic comedy and revived from the acclaimed 2021 Festival production. But the Glyndebourne tradition begins well before the curtain rises…
The grounds open in the mid-afternoon, allowing time for Members to gather for a picnic on the Ha-ha lawn (garden furniture provided). Attended by our 67 host and a waiter, Members will enjoy Champagne and canapés followed by a quintessential English picnic. Our sommelier will pour a red wine from magnum to accompany. In the 67 tradition of sharing treasured bottles, Members and their guests are encouraged to bring a bottle from their own cellars to share with the table too.
Members then move to the award-winning indoor auditorium where they will enjoy premium seating for the performance, ensuring complete immersion in the drama.
Formal evening attire is customary for this event, adding an extra sense of occasion to this musical evening.

ABOUT THE PLAY
Written in 1814 by Gioachino Rossini at the height of his comic genius, Il Turco in Italia is a sparkling opera buffa that brims with wit, flirtation and irrepressible humour.
A wife in search of romance and a writer in search of a plot provide the perfect ingredients for an uproarious tangle of mistaken identities, intrigues, break-ups and reconciliations. Rossini’s farce returns in Mariame Clément’s stylish, five-star staging and the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vincenzo Milletarì.
