“Wine is not art…it is much older than art. It is perfect.” Roland Velich
Whilst the Velich family have stuck faithfully to the traditional Austrian line of making white wines, Roland broke away in the ‘90s to create his own enterprise making reds from the Blaufränkisch variety.

After purchasing a winery in Mittelburgenlad, the heart of Blaufränkisch country, Roland Velich went against the stream by organically farming his vines and being faithful to the ancient traditions of the wine region as much as possible, while still enhancing the delicacy of the wines.
He harvests low yields from vines grown with minimal chemical treatment and uses natural yeasts for slow fermentation, often in open vats. Assemblage is a slow and careful process after an extended evolution in the cask, and no new oak is used.
Weingut Moric Blaufränkisch is now well established internationally as a fine wine, sought after by increasing numbers of fine wine collectors.
They lead the way in creating a world-wide reputation for this wonderful grape variety…
