TO CAPTURE A CALIFORNIA SUNSET IS TO HOLD AN ANGEL’S WINGS WITH BATED BREATH
California has been making superb wines from the Pinot Noir grape for a long time – not long in the Burgundian sense, but loosely speaking, it was the mid-1900’s when fine bottles of Pinot Noir were being produced in California. Demand proceeded to boom after Sideways came onto the big screen, resulting in a greater and wider offering of Pinot Noir.
The wineries in the Golden State produce expressions in many styles due to the varying climate, terroir and methods of the winemakers. Regions such as the Sonoma Coast, Santa Barbara and Anderson Valley continue to produce elegant, vivid examples of this beguiling grape.
Currently, California is the main theme of our wine list in the Club Room with 100 of the 400 wines by-the-glass from this region. On 23rd November, our sommelier team will guide Members through a Masterclass tasting, showcasing a collection of terroir-driven Pinot Noir.
