THE FOUR CORNERS OF BORDEAUX…CHÂTEAU GUIRAUD MASTERCLASS
During a dinner in early 2006, Robert Peugeot, an industrialist, and three wine makers, Olivier Bernard of Domaine de Chevalier, Stephan Von Neipperg of Château Canon La Gaffelière and Xavier Planty, the estate’s director, decided to buy Guiraud. The four specialists each bought with them immeasurable experience, and have guided the vines of Château Guiraud into the stunning vineyard it is today…

The vineyard takes its name from a Bordeaux negociant, Pierre Guiraud, who purchased the estate in 1766. Château Guiraud is the oldest estate in Sauternes with the property tracing its history to the 15th century. With a vineyard of 100 hectares, the property is also one of the largest in the appellation, and is incredibly well known for the estate’s natural approach to wine-making. It is the first 1er Grand Cru Classé to be certified organic, and the only Château to apply genuine ecologic consideration across the entirety of its vines.
In Sauternes, the Sémilon & Sauvignon Blanc grape varieties are affected by Botrytis Cinerea or Noble Rot, which gives the wines a delicious deep orange-golden colour, with aromas and flavours of marmalade, barley sugar and saffron. Château Guiraud wines are stamped with authenticity, with characteristic acidity, minerality and an exceptional depth.
We are very honoured to welcome Xavier Planty, Château Guiraud’s winemaker and co-owner (and estate manager since 1983..), to guide us through a Masterclass tasting…
