Polished rice and all things nice
Unlike wine, where alcohol is produced by fermenting sugar that is naturally present in grapes, sake is produced by a brewing process, very similar to the production of beer, where starch is converted into sugars, before being converted into alcohol.
There are two basic types of sake: Futsū-shu (ordinary sake) and Tokutei meishō-shu (special designation sake); Futsū-shu being the equivalent of a table wine, which accounts for the majority of the sake that is produced, whilst Tokutei meishō-shu refers to premium sake.
Following the success of our last Sake tasting, we are delighted to welcome the producers of some of Japan’s finest Sakes for our tasting on 19th January. We are also very honoured to welcome Mr Shinichiro Shimizu, Owner of Zaku to host our Masterclass dinner on Friday 20th January. We do hope you can join us on either occasion (or both!) to discover this ancient and mysterious brew…
