‘MY RULE OF LIFE PRESCRIBED AS AN ABSOLUTELY SACRED RITE SMOKING CIGARS AND ALSO THE DRINKING OF ALCOHOL BEFORE, AFTER AND IF NEED BE DURING ALL MEALS AND THE INTERVALS BETWEEN THEM.’ SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL

Today, the Davidoff family name stands for numerous luxury items, luggage, colognes and spirits to name a few, but their standing glory is their original product; the cigar. We know that many of you are just as passionate about fine cigars as you are about fine wine, and it gives us great pleasure to invite you to a dinner co-hosted by our good friends and close neighbours at Davidoff, St James’s Street…

This collection was created by the legendary Zino Davidoff, who originally started producing cigars in Cuba in 1969. Zino Davidoff began a new journey for the family, and studied the art of tobacco cultivation and invented new ways of storing tobacco and mixing the blends. He built the first desktop humidor which changed the entire cigar industry, and his ‘Château’ and ‘Grand Crus’ lines of cigars were released in 1947, and took the world by storm.

Today, Davidoff is owned and managed by Edward and Eddie Sahakian, and following what appeared to be a temporary move to London during the Iranian revolution and during the Iranian revolution in 1978, the family fled to London. At first the move was temporary, but they quickly realised that the family had to start all over again…

When asked by his solicitor and good friend what he’d like to do, Edward said that he wanted to open a Davidoff shop in London and sell fine cigars, as he frequently flew to their shop in Geneva to stock up.

The solicitor then contacted Davidoff, which resulted in Edward’s meeting Dr. Ernst Schneider, the company’s president, and Raymond Scheurer, in London. It was agreed that Edward would open what was then the second Davidoff franchise in the world, after Hong Kong, and the first in Europe. The great story of the store’s foundation is unlikely to be forgotten by Edward’s family, especially his son, Eddie, 43, who, in recent years, has taken over the reins of the business from his father.

We invite you to join us for a cigar tasting & wine accompaniment at Davidoff, before being seated at the Club for a three-course dinner and returning for a post-meal cigar. You will be guided and advised by our sommeliers as to the perfect matches throughout, as well as enjoying the warm and incredibly informative company of Eddie Sahakian, the Director of Davidoff of London.
