Volnay Vibrations

While half the world marvels at the ever increasing prices of the grands crus from the Côte de Nuits, the rest of us are appreciating the magical wines of Volnay just a few miles to the south.

These wines have a capacity to age which belies their initial elegance. In the eternal Burgundian battle between limestone and clay, it is the limestone which has the upper hand.

We shall explore the various Monopoles from top producers such as (but not only) the Marquis d’Angerville’s famous Clos des Ducs, Domaine de la Pousse d’Or’s Clos de la Bousse d’Or (Jasper has some good stories to tell about that one) and Domaine Michel Lafarge’s Clos du Château des Ducs.

We will cover the outstanding terroirs of Caillerets, Clos des Chênes, Taillepieds and Santenots-du Milieu, while making sure to include some notable contenders such as Chevrets and Champans. There is almost going to be too much to enjoy, just as there was with our Meursault Masterclass last year.
