The Judgment of Paris revisited – with Head of Wine Operations Andreas Rosendal MS

Tuesday 7th April

It is no exaggeration to say that, when it took place 50 years ago, the so-called Judgment of Paris changed the course of fine wine.

Organised by the late, much-loved wine writer, merchant – and founding member of 67 Pall Mall – Steven Spurrier, the blind tasting was intended as an eye-opening event pitting a handful of Californian wines against their vaunted counterparts from Bordeaux and Burgundy. Spurrier thought the whole thing would be a bit of fun – the esteemed French tasters he assembled for the exercise felt it would merely confirm their belief that the best French wines were superior to anything made elsewhere.

With Californian wines triumphing in both categories, the results, of course, proved otherwise, encouraging the fine-wine world to take Californian wines – and, indeed, wines from all parts of the ‘New World’ more seriously. Since then, many variations on the theme have taken place, always instructive, as wine lovers continue to compare and contrast similar wines from different regions.

Half a century on, our new Head of Wine Operations, Andreas Rosendal MS, has managed to assemble eight of the very same wines – with updated vintages, naturally – that were tasted on that fateful day back in 1976. We will taste through them under Andreas’ guidance – not blind, but instead with a focus on how each producer and region has evolved in the last 50 years, with insights into the vineyard, winery and the people behind the wines. (We may, however, conclude with a vote on your favourites, in the spirit of friendly competition.)

Come and join us to re-taste history through a modern lens, and challenge your own preconceptions along the way…

The wines we will be tasting:

2017 Château Montelena, Chardonnay, Napa Valley, California
2023 Freemark Abbey, Chardonnay, Napa Valley, California
2017 Domaine Roulot, Meursault, Burgundy
2019 Joseph Drouhin, 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc, Beaune, Burgundy

2017 Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California
2018 Ridge Vineyards, Monte Bello, Santa Cruz Mountains, California
2016 Château Montrose, 2ème Cru Classé, St-Estèphe, Bordeaux
2016 Château Léoville Las Cases, 2ème Cru Classé, St-Julien, Bordeaux

South Africa’s Swartland Revolution with Chris Mullineux

Thursday 9th April

Of the various tremors that the increasingly dynamic South Africa has sent through the wine world over the last 20 years, few have been so seismic as the so-called Swartland Revolution. And few producers have been closer to its epicentre than Mullineux.

The couple behind the label – Andrea and Chris Mullineux – met two decades ago while completing harvest internships in the Rhône. ‘We fell in love over Syrah, as well as with Syrah,’ says Andrea. They returned to South Africa with their own winemaking ambitions – and chose Swartland as the place to make them a reality.

It was there, through the region’s old bush vines on a mixture of granite, gravel and schist soils, that they felt they could craft truly great, terroir-driven wines. From the moment they established their label, in 2007, their approach – gentle whole-bunch pressing and maturation in older oak – allowed the site to shine through and, as Andrea puts it, ‘become part of the wine’s story.’

We invite you to hear that story first-hand, from Chris Mullineux, at an intimate tasting exploring Mullineux’s trio of soil-specific Syrahs: the fresh, lifted Granite cuvée; the rustic, red-berried Iron; and the structured, dark-fruited Schist, with its wild, incense-and-violet laced perfume. And with three white cuvées to taste too – notably South Africa’s signature variety, Chenin Blanc – this promises to be a fantastic evening.

Wine we’ll be tasting:
2023 Mullineux, Granite, Chenin Blanc, Swartland, South Africa
2023 Mullineux, Iron, Chenin Blanc, Swartland, South Africa
2021 Mullineux, Syrah, Swartland, South Africa
2020 Mullineux, Granite, Syrah, Swartland, South Africa
2020 Mullineux, Iron, Syrah, Swartland, South Africa
2020 Mullineux, Schist, Syrah, Swartland, South Africa

Discover one of China’s most exciting wineries – Fei Tswei

Wednesday 15th April

In 2012, wine lover Lily Zhang Yanli was looking to turn her passion into a business, and was offered the chance to purchase a French winery. Fully established, with mature vineyard and château, it presented an opportunity to hit the ground running. But Lily turned it down. Instead, inspired by having tasted the famous Jai Bei Lan of Helan Qingxue, she decided to start her own winery from scratch in China – planting vines in the eastern foothills of Helan Mountain, Ningxia.

We can draw two conclusions from this: firstly, that Lily is a woman who likes to do things her own way; and secondly, that she has huge faith in the potential of this part of China to produce world-class wines. ‘The French winery was very mature; we just had to buy it and follow its recipe,’ says Lily. ‘The land in Ningxia was a blank canvas, but I could paint what I wanted on it. It would be my palette.’

She planted over 80 hectares of both white and red grape varieties: from Chardonnay, Viognier and Petit Manseng to Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Pinot Noir. New additions, meanwhile, have focused on Marselan, the crossing that has recently taken China by storm. And today, her faith has been repaid, with Fei Tswei recognised as one of China’s most exciting emerging wineries, making some of the country’s most thrilling wines.

We invite you to join Lily to hear her story and discover the wines for yourself.

The wines we will be tasting:
2019 Fei Tswei, Reserve, Chardonnay, Helan Mountain, Ningxia, China
2021 Fei Tswei, Lava, Cabernet Sauvignon, Helan Mountain, Ningxia, China
2021 Fei Tswei, Lava, Cabernet Franc, Helan Mountain, Ningxia, China
2021 Fei Tswei, Cellar, Marselan, Helan Mountain, Ningxia, China
2021 Fei Tswei, Owner’s Reserve, Marselan, Helan Mountain, Ningxia, China
2021 Fei Tswei, Petit Manseng, Helan Mountain, Ningxia, China

#67SommSocial with Jason and Chris: High-Altitude vs Low-Altitude Wines

Saturday 18th April

It’s time for another Saturday #67SommSocial, this time led by Sommeliers Jason Chai and Dychrismary Baru.

Jason and Chris both joined the team in 2024, and have become known as our very own ‘little-and-large’ duo. So when we were discussing possible themes for a Somm Social, it seemed only natural that they should focus on wines from high and low altitudes – but with the diminutive Chris championing the high-altitude wines and the lofty Jason coming down to earth to present the lower-altitude cuvées.

Both Jason and Chris enjoy exploring wines from lesser-known regions, outside of the classics, and they have put together six such examples for this tasting, spanning Hungary to Austria, China to Japan.

This interactive session is not a structured, classroom-style masterclass, but rather a relaxed session which sees our somms introduce the wines via paired comparisons, before mingling with Members throughout.

Come and join them to discover which wines you will gravitate towards…

Wines we will be tasting:

2024 Susana Balbo, Crios, Torrontés, Mendoza, Argentina
2020 Oremus, Mandolás Dry Furmint, Tokaji, Hungary
2020 Pranzegg, Campill, Schiava, Alto Adige, Italy
2022 Niki Hills, Pinot Noir, Hokkaido, Japan
2021 Zaxee, 2300 Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon, Yunnan, China
2021 Weingut Moric, Reserve, Blaufränkisch, Burgenland, Austria

Champagne Gardet Masterclass

Monday 20th April

Join us for an in-depth masterclass hosted by Christophe Prieux, owner of Champagne Gardet, one of the region’s more quietly respected houses.

The Prieux family traces its roots in Champagne back to the 17th century – first tending the land, and then, three generations ago, moving to Reims to develop nurseries and garden centres. It was only in the 2000s, however, that Christophe Prieux resolved to pursue the most emblematic agricultural activity in his region, joining the houses of Ployez-Jaquemart and Gardet and taking over the running of the newly expanded marque.

In this guided tasting, Christophe will talk Members through the different facets of Champagne, from how blends are decided to the use of reserve wines; the nuances of grower Champagne vs the negociant model; and the influence of Pinot Noir vs Chardonnay. The tasting will feature seven Champagnes, spanning Gardet’s NV, vintage, rosé and prestige cuvée releases, and charting the wines’ evolution from freshness to complexity.

Join us for a rare chance to hear an owner’s perspective on how a modern Champagne house balances tradition with precision.

The wines we will be tasting:
NV Gardet, Tradition, Brut
NV Gardet, Premier Cru, Réserve, Brut
NV Gardet, Rosé, Brut
2015 Gardet, 130th Anniversary, Millésime, Extra Brut (limited-edition)

Caviar pairing masterclass – which wines (or spirits) will work best?

Wednesday 29th April

It’s the question to which we all need to know the answer – what is the best pairing for the finest caviar? And the good news is that we have the perfect opportunity to find out…

Our guides for this enlightening evening are Senior Wine Development Manager Bonnie Yap and Victoria Solyanik, founding partner and managing director of Caviar d’Eden.

Originally from Russia, where caviar has a longstanding role in fine gastronomy, Victoria brings deep knowledge of the traditions, harvesting techniques and appreciation of this prized delicacy. Through Caviar d’Eden, she works closely with leading chefs, sommeliers, hotels and restaurants to showcase high-quality sturgeon caviar across Asia. Victoria will share insights into the heritage, craftsmanship and enjoyment of caviar, outlining how different varieties of sturgeon, from Siberian to Russian, offer different nuances of texture and flavour.

Together with Bonnie and Victoria, we will explore pairings for four types of caviar, from Champagne to off-dry Riesling; rich Jura to elegant Pinot; and two contrasting spirits, all intended to enhance the cleanliness and character of this prized roe. And best of all? There are no correct answers!

So join us for what promises to be a fun and fascinating evening.

The caviar we’ll be tasting:

Summer Party 2026 – 67 Soleil

Saturday 9th May

A tradition across the 67 Pall Mall group, the Summer Party brings Members together to celebrate the spirit of the season: generous wines, lively conversation, and the company of fellow Members. This year marks a special first, as we host the celebration within the walls of the Club and a brand new space that we are launching – 67 on Scotts.

67 on Scotts is our newest concept occupying a double-storeyed corner unit on Levels 1 and 2 on Shaw Centre (we suspect you may have seen the hoarding up on the ground level), designed for large-scale luxury events from celebrations and parties to brand showcases and activations. Members will be among the first to experience the space in its full glory as we bring it to life.

67 Soleil draws inspiration from the spirit of a European summer, and will see the Club transformed into a multi-level summer playground, for a different experience on each floor.

Across cultures, the sun carries powerful meaning — vitality and renewal, rhythm and continuity — making it a fitting symbol for a night that brings together Members, friends of the Club, and partners from across the worlds of wine and gastronomy.

Throughout the evening, Members will journey through a series of distinctive settings:

Level 1 — The Coastal Room
A relaxed seaside atmosphere welcomes you into 67 on Scotts, with bright wines, fresh flavours and the feeling of an endless summer afternoon.

Level 2 — Ibiza Nightfall After Party
As the sun sets, the tempo rises. Expect vibrant energy, flowing wines and upbeat music that will get you moving all night.

Level 27 — The Summer Cellarium
At the heart of the Club, a celebration of wine takes centre stage with exceptional bottles poured alongside roaming culinary stations.

Level 28 — The Mykonos Garden Party

High above the city, the evening continues under the open sky at the Garden Bar. Inspired by the breezy garden parties of Mykonos, expect sweeping views, late-night pours, and the rhythm of a long summer night.

More than a celebration, 67 Soleil offers a glimpse into the many ways your Club can come alive. Each corner will unfold with its own character from vibrant food stations and flowing wines to music, entertainment and thoughtfully designed settings that evolve throughout the evening.

We welcome Members to experience the Club in motion, and to see how ideas can take shape within these spaces, much in the same spirit.

What we’re pouring:

To welcome summer, NV Pol Roger Brut Réserve will flow throughout the Club, the perfect companion for long summer afternoons and the opening notes of a night to remember.

Level 1 & 2 — The Coastal Room & Ibiza Nightfall

The celebration begins with wines made for the sun. NV Billecart-Salmon Blanc de Blancs offers delicate citrus and green apple, crisp enough to echo the sea breeze of a Mediterranean afternoon, and 2024 Chateau d’Esclans Whispering Angel Rosé brings Provençal charm in a glass, soft and perfumed, perfect for wandering between rooms or catching up with friends. Meanwhile, the 2024 Lagar de Cervera Albariño dazzles with Atlantic freshness and lively acidity, a bright foil to the creamy texture of the Blanc de Blancs.

After the sun sets, NV Vincent Bouzerau Crémant de Bourgogne keeps the bubbles going at Ibiza Nightfall, where we’re sure you’d want to put on your dancing shoes…

Level 27 — The Summer Cellarium

At the heart of the Club, wine takes centre stage. Whites start with the sunlit precision of 2023

Domaine Fernard & Laurent Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet, its mineral-driven palate and subtle richness showing why Burgundy remains timeless. South Africa contributes with 2024 Ken Forrester Old Vine Chenin Blanc, where bright orchard fruits and a hint of honey speak to decades of vinicultural mastery, and not forgetting 2023 Niepoort Redoma Branco Reserva, a masterclass in Douro white wine-making that layers orchard fruit, citrus zest, and schist-derived minerality.

Reds traverse some classic terroirs. From Oregon, 2022 Domaine Drouhin Pinot Noir brings the Drouhin family’s Burgundian touch to the Dundee Hills — fragrant red berries, fine tannins, and the precision that has made it a benchmark for American Pinot. Bordeaux is represented by 2015 La Dame de Montrose, a polished Saint-Estèphe that balances dark fruit, cedar and structure with immediate drinkability.

Spain arrives in grand style with 2011 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904, one of Rioja’s great classics. Aged for three years in American oak and bottle-matured to perfection, it unfolds with layers of blackberry, orange peel, cedar and balsamic spice — silky, complex and beautifully balanced, a Rioja that shows exactly why the estate has been a benchmark since 1890.

And for Members seeking something uniquely Italian, 2021 La Ca’Nova Barbaresco stands out as a hidden gem; aromatic, structured, and full of personality.

Level 28 — The Mykonos Garden Party

High above the city, the evening shifts to cocktails, open skies, and sweeping views. Here, the pace slows just enough for long, lingering sips under the stars — the perfect Mediterranean finale to a night of exploration, discovery, and celebration.

From bright coastal whites to cellar classics and late-night cocktails, your glass will never run dry — and your summer night will linger long after the last pour.

From New Zealand to Burgundy via Singapore, with Domaine Thomson

Wednesday 13th May

When Pui Mun (‘PM’) Chan Hall-Jones was introduced to the joys of wine by her father as a teenager growing up in Singapore, it formed a lasting impact. Her father was a lover of the classics – Bordeaux, Burgundy and German Riesling – and it was a love that PM would go on to inherit and pursue further when her banking career took her to Hong Kong.

There, as she honed her palate, Burgundy came to the fore and PM developed a fascination with Pinot Noir. So much so that in 2000, with her late husband David Hall-Jones, she purchased a plot in Central Otago and planted the Surveyor Thomson vineyard, the building block of what was to become Domaine Thomson. Other blocks followed, PM working closely with winemaker Dean Shaw over the years to create Pinots with as little intervention as possible – to let the grapes ‘speak in the glass’, as she says.

In 2013, Francophile PM acquired a parcel of vines in Gevrey-Chambertin, where she has a holiday home. This was followed five years later by other parcels in Saint-Aubin and Mercurey, each producing a separate cuvée. In recent years, PM has added a Central Otago Chardonnay to the Domaine Thomson range to complement her white Burgundies.

We are thrilled to welcome PM to the Club for what should be a fascinating evening exploring the similarities and differences between the two terroirs, and how that informs the respective styles of her wines in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

The wines we will be tasting:

2021 Domaine Thomson, Surveyor Thomson, Left Bank, Chardonnay, Central Otago, New Zealand
2021 Domaine Thomson, Saint-Aubin, Les Travers de Chez Edouard
2023 Domaine Thomson, Explorer, Pinot Noir, Central Otago, New Zealand
2019 Domaine Thomson, Surveyor Thomson, Pinot Noir, Central Otago, New Zealand
2021 Domaine Thomson, Mercurey, Ez Chênes, Burgundy
2018 Domaine Thomson, Rows 76-89, Pinot Noir, Central Otago, New Zealand
2020 Domaine Thomson, Gevrey-Chambertin, Les Evocelles, Burgundy
2019 Domaine Thomson, Rows 1-37, Pinot Noir, Central Otago, New Zealand

Exploring the hallmarks of Champagne Billecart-Salmon with sixth-generation Antoine Roland-Billecart

Thursday 21st May

One of Champagne’s few remaining family-owned grandes marques, Billecart-Salmon was founded in 1818 by Nicolas François Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon. Today, the house is run by seventh-generation Mathieu Roland-Billecart and his cousin, sixth-generation Antoine Roland-Billecart.

Antoine officially began working for the maison in 1985, and was largely responsible for opening up the Asian market in the ‘80s and ‘90s at a time when Billecart-Salmon was moving from a mass-market brand to high-end fine wine. We are delighted to welcome him to the Club to present an in-depth masterclass exploring how the house’s philosophy translates into style via four defining expressions, across four different flights of wines:

  • Traditional Blend - harmony, balance, and precision
  • Rosé - finesse, texture, and emotion
  • Blanc de Blancs - elegance, tension, and purity
  • Barrel Vinification - depth, structure, and complexity

Each flight is anchored by benchmark bottlings, from the oak-vinified Sous Bois and Le Clos St-Hilaire to the prestige cuvées Nicolas Françcois and Elisabeth Salmon.

We invite Members to join Antoine for what promises to be an exceptional evening.

Welcome Drink: NV Billecart-Salmon, Réserve, Brut
