Celebrating the Old Vines and Back Vintages of Barossa Valley Stalwart Kaesler
Tuesday 25th August
Few wine regions can boast a viticultural history to compete with Australia’s Barossa Valley, home to some of the oldest vines in the world.
Among its most venerable producers, Kaesler traces its origins back to the 1890s, and the Silesian immigrants who first planted vineyards here. The Kaesler family farmed the land for over a century, until it was sold to a team led by Swiss-born agribusiness specialist Ed Peter in 1999.
The transition allowed the Kaesler team to set about reinvigorating the vineyards, introducing regenerative farming practices to ensure the vines’ continued health, notably the very oldest plantings. And none are more treasured than those planted in 1893, which form the key component of Kaesler’s flagship, the memorably named ‘Old Bastard’ cuvée.
Even beyond this, the majority of the vineyards are more than 50 years old, and as a consequence – and unlike many Barossa wineries – Kaesler still relies on its own estate-grown fruit. Shiraz continues to play a prominent part, but long-time Barossa favourites Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre (aka Mataro, in Aussie parlance) also have roles to play in the range, not least in the GSM blend Avignon.
We are delighted to welcome second-generation owner Ed Peter to the Club to present these wines. Ed developed a deep connection to the estate in his youth, spending many childhood holidays there. Today, having spent seven years living in Singapore, he represents Kaesler across Asia and further afield though its distributor partner Pure Wine Co, which represents a clutch of stellar Aussie wineries.
Join him to discover a part of Australian wine history.
Wines we’ll be tasting:
2022 Reach for the Sky Shiraz, Barossa Valley
2021 Avignon GSM, Barossa Valley
2020 Old Vine Shiraz, Barossa Valley
2021 Old Bastard Shiraz, Barossa Valley
2017 Old Vine Shiraz, Barossa Valley
2015 Old Bastard Shiraz, Barossa Valley

Domaine Drouhin: A Tale of Two Terroirs, from Burgundy to Oregon
Monday 14th September
The name Drouhin carries profound weight in Burgundy. Founded in 1880 in Beaune, Maison Joseph Drouhin has evolved from a small négociant into one of the region’s most respected family-owned estates.
Over five generations, the Drouhin family has steadily expanded its holdings via a stellar array of vineyards in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Mâconnais. Under Robert Drouhin, the estate was an early advocate of organic and biodynamic viticulture, which is now practised by the next generation across all its sites, spanning more than 100 hectares and yielding wines at every level, from village to grand cru, under its benchmark négociant business as well as its own domaine.
Today, the Drouhin name also resonates across the Atlantic, where the family was one of the first Burgundian producers to explore the potential Stateside. Founded in 1987, when Robert Drouhin purchased land in the Dundee Hills of the Willamette Valley, Domaine Drouhin Oregon has played a pivotal role in establishing Oregon’s international reputation, cultivating Willamette Valley’s distinct identity while maintaining a clear Burgundian connection. Drouhin felt the region’s cool climate and volcanic soils offered a compelling counterpart to Burgundy, but also a complementary canvas for producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that emphasise elegance, balance and site expression rather than sheer ripeness. And so it has proved…
We are thrilled to be joined by President & CEO of Domaine Drouhin Oregon, David Millman, to present wines from both the US and Burgundy in what should be an enlightening evening. David has overseen the family’s work in Oregon for over 20 years, growing its know-how and ambition, most recently via the acquisition of the newer property of Roserock in the Eola–Amity Hills AVA. With co-host, wine critic and educator Tan Ying Hsien MW, the pair are perfectly placed to provide a broad perspective on Oregon, Burgundy, and how the two coincide.
The wines we’ll be tasting:
2020 Chablis, Grand Cru Bougros, Joseph Drouhin
2023 Roserock, Chardonnay, Domaine Drouhin, Oregon
2023 Arthur, Chardonnay, Domaine Drouhin, Oregon
2021 Beaune, 1er Cru Clos de Mouches Blanc, Joseph Drouhin
2017 Savigny Les Beaune, Clos des Godeaux, Joseph Drouhin
2022 Roserock Drouhin Oregon, Zephirine, Pinot Noir
2022 Laurene, Pinot Noir, Domaine Drouhin, Oregon
2017 Beaune, 1er Cru Clos de Mouches Rouge, Joseph Drouhin

Exploring the Key Expressions of Valpolicella Pioneer Masi
Friday 18th September
Founded in 1772, Masi has, in the subsequent 250 years, evolved from a local Valpolicella winery into one of Italian wine’s most influential names.
Today, still owned and run by the founding Boscaini family, Masi is more than merely a wine producer. Rather it has become arguably the leading voice in defining and promoting the wines of the Veneto – particularly Amarone.
Such status can be traced back to the 1960s and ‘70s, when Sandro Boscaini revived the traditional grape-drying technique of Appassimento and helped establish Amarone as a serious fine-wine category. His innovations yielded more accessible expressions of the richly flavoured, age-worthy red, including some from outside the strict limitations of the appellation.
Today, Masi remains firmly identified with Amarone and Appassimento, but its identity extends way beyond that of a conventional Valpolicella producer, with a particular emphasis on site expression, indigenous varieties and long ageing.
Alessandra Boscaini is the seventh generation of the family dynasty, and combines deep family heritage with a contemporary international perspective. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Club to present an overview of the Masi wines, ranging from the flagship Costasera – Amarone’s gentle giant – to the long-aged Serego Alighieri bottling, produced in partnership with the descendants of Dante. In between, she will show the single-vineyard Campolongo Di Torbe; the single-varietal Osar; and the sweet Recioto dessert wine, Angelorum.
We invite you to join her for what promises to be an enlightening evening.
Wines we’ll be tasting:
Welcome Drink: NV Canevel, Setage, Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Extra Brut
2018 Masi, Costasera, Riserva, Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico
2017 Serego Alighieri, Vaio Armaron, Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico
2015 Masi, Mazzano, Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico
2013 Masi, Boscaini, Campolongo Di Torbe, Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico
2015 Masi, Osar Oseleta, Rosso del Veronese
2018 Masi, Angelorum, Recioto Della Valpolivella Classico
