A Masterclass with Scala Dei winery
This is the region’s great historical winery, linked to the arrival of Carthusian monks in Priorat in the 11th century, who were responsible for spreading the cultivation of vines…

Scala Dei owns 60 hectares of vineyards, mainly planted with Grenache and Cariñena varieties. They are spread over 42 different plots at 400 to 800 metres above sea level, climbing up the slopes of the Montsant mountain.
The origins of Cellers de Scala Dei date back to the 19th century when, following the dissolution of the Spanish monasteries, the families of the present owners bought the lands of the monastery of Scala Dei and pioneered the bottling of wine in the Priorat.
Tim Atkin MW wrote that ‘at the latest count, there are 102 cellars and 600 growers in Priorat, compared with a mere handful in 1989. In the space of 25 years, the region’s vineyards have increased nearly threefold’. With that number certainly having increased more recently, it is very exciting to see the growth and change in one of the most beautiful wine regions on the planet, and It is a true pleasure to welcome one of the region’s pioneers to the Club for a Masterclass tasting.
We welcome Ricard Rofes to the Club, winemaker of Scala Dei, to host a Masterclass featuring wines chosen especially for Members of 67 Pall Mall. Ricard will share the history of the region, showing a fantastic collection of these premium, high altitude and single-vineyard wines.
