Zambartas is a celebration of heritage and culture, of hands-dirty winemaking and lost varietals.
Ostensibly founded in 2006 by Akis Zambartas, its beginnings go back to the 1980s when Akis began scouring his homeland of Cyprus for forgotten indigenous grapes.
Today it is Akis’ winemaker son Marcos who runs the family winery alongside his wife Marleen. The pair discuss with Demetri Walters MW how those native varietals remain the driving force behind much of what they do, as illustrated by a selection of wines which include its flagship Margelina – a field blend fusion from one of Cyprus’ few remaining centenarian vineyards.
