A year in Bordeaux – The 2010 Vintage – Wednesday 11th May

After the legendary 2009 vintage in Bordeaux, the 2010 en-primeur was one to wait for with baited breath to see if it could live up to the reputation of it’s beloved predecessor…

In spite of this heavy shadow, 2010 proved itself to be an exceptional year. Born of cooler, drier weather conditions, and sunshine hours of less than half of what 2009 saw in June, it was off to a slow start. Things heated up in August, September and October with crisp, cool nights, allowing for a languorously slow ripening for the grapes, creating great balance. The driest year on record since 1949, 2010 produced high alcohol, ripe, strong tannins with a low pH, resulting in an abundance of fresh acidity.

It was not free of challenges, with Merlot crop being hit with milleranderage and colure, resulting in smaller, more concentrated yields.

We hope that Members will join us in the Bier Haus as we learn more about this wonderful vintage, under the insightful guidance of 67 Pall Mall Verbier Assistant Cellar Master Teona Floare.

We will be enjoying a horizontal tasting of the 2010 vintage, sampling some of Bordeaux’s most iconic Châteaux.

Chef Jérôme will be serving delicious small plates alongside the tasting, the perfect companion to six exceptional pours.

The wines we will be tasting:
2010 Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc, Pessac-Leognan
2010 Château le Puy, Cuvee Barthelem, Côtes de Bordeaux
2010 Château Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Leognan
