Switzerland: Meet the winemakers tasting with Simon Hardy – Friday 6th November

The second week of November sees London host the third edition of the capital’s Swiss Wine Week. And to mark the occasion, Swiss Wine Ambassador and Club Member Simon Hardy is hosting a tasting with a difference, gathering together six of the country’s most dynamic producers.

The format for the event will see guests split into small groups, with producers rotating between them. Each winemaker will spend 10-15 minutes with each group, outlining their approach over two wines and allowing Members to dive into whichever topics they so choose. Think of it as wine-based speed-dating – with sufficient time at the end of the night for Members to return to whichever producer and wines they most enjoyed.

Switzerland’s vineyards cover roughly the same-sized area as those of Alsace but, as the country consumes almost all the wine it produces, only a small proportion makes it further afield. We are proud to have long offered a wide selection of Swiss wines here in London, while our Alpine home in Verbier has one of the most comprehensive lists of Swiss wines to be found anywhere.

The participating producers represent different regions of Switzerland, from Valais to Vaud, providing a broad overview of styles, terroirs and grape varieties. And for the full Alpine experience, a Swiss cheese board will be served to every guest, while signed copies of Simon’s book, The Smart Traveller’s Wine Guide to Switzerland, will be available for purchase at a special price.

Simon Hardy DipWSET is a British/Swiss dual national based in London, where he organises the annual Swiss Wine Week. As well as being an active member of the Club, Simon is a co-founder of Alpina Vina, the reference platform for Alpine wine regions, the Switzerland Regional Ambassador for the Old Vine Conference and a judge at the International Wine Challenge.
