Paired dinner hosted by Don Pelayo de la Mata, Marqués de Vargas – Thursday 25th July

Marqués de Vargas traces its history back to 1840, when Don Felipe de la Mata, the eighth marqués, planted the first vineyards at Hacienda Pradolagar in Rioja Alta. In recent years, the estate has extended its reach to properties in its near-neighbour Ribera del Duero, and Rias Baixas, where it makes racy Albariño in the southern part of Galicia near the Portuguese border.

Following a drop-in tasting in the afternoon of Thursday 25th July, we are delighted to welcome Don Pelayo de la Mata, the current Marqués de Vargas – and the fourth generation to helm the estate – to lead a rather special dinner for Members.

Paired with a seven-course menu lovingly prepared by our Spanish Head Chef Pau will be a lees-aged Albariño, Reserva and Gran Reserva Riojas, as well as single-vineyard wines from both Ribera del Duero and Rioja. This latter category has become a major part of Rioja’s identity in recent years and we are thrilled that Members will be able to taste Marqués de Vargas’ own limited-edition rendering.

With each course, the Marqués de Vargas will introduce the paired vintage, giving Members unique insight into the process and heritage behind each cuvée.

We look forward to welcoming Members for what should be a memorable occasion.
