67 Pall Mall welcomes all lovers of wine through its Clubs’ doors, whether they be in possession of an encyclopaedic knowledge of varieties and regions, or only just set out on their vinous journey.
To aid our Members on their voyage of wine discovery, 67 Pall Mall offers Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) courses which are widely acknowledged as the global standard in wine education. To date, these fabulous courses have only been available at our London and Singapore Clubs…until now.
From Sunday 2nd July to Friday 7th July, we are thrilled to be launching a truly unique week of bespoke wine elucidation and adventure at 67 Pall Mall Verbier.
With the epic mountain setting of Verbier as a backdrop, over five days Members will study for a WSET Level 2 Award in Wines certificate while enjoying 67’s trademark hospitality. Members will also be treated to a vineyard tour and tasting, hosted by one of our leading, local vignerons.
There is also the opportunity to extend the week in perfect fashion and join us on a journey across the border as we head to Burgundy where we will be holding the 67 Pall Mall Beaune Summer Party on 8th July.
Arriving at the resort on Sunday 2nd July, Members will kick off their week with a three-course welcome dinner with Swiss wine pairings at the Club. This will be an opportunity to sample some of the region’s produce and meet your fellow wine-loving cohort as well as our 67 Pall Mall Verbier team who will be looking after you throughout the week.
The three-day WSET Level 2 Award in Wines course begins at 10am on Monday 3rd July in the Club’s private dining space, the Bier Haus. The sessions will be led by our friend Alexandre Centeleghe whose company, Pur Jus Education, is a WSET-approved programme provider. Alexandre’s informative yet convivial sessions will take you through to 5.15pm each day, with a break for a gourmet buffet lunch. You will find more detailed information on the course below.
At the culmination of the course on Wednesday 5th July, our learned Members will undertake a short exam in the afternoon. As just reward for their studiousness, 67 Pall Mall Verbier will host a celebratory four-course wine-paired dinner in the Clubroom, for which our Head Sommelier Lucy Meza Ortega has pulled from the cellar some of 67 Pall Mall Verbier’s most exciting wines.
The following day, Thursday 6th July, we hope you will indulge in a well-deserved lie-in before our week of exploration continues on the mountainside with a luxury Champagne picnic, complete with Zalto glassware. Our location will be the stunning setting of La Chaux, a 35-minute walk from Verbier via the Medran gondola. Members are free to make their own way there, or alternatively be accompanied by one of our 67 guides in time for the pop of the first cork at 1pm.
La Chaux offers unparalleled views of the famous, snow-capped Grand and Petit Combin mountains, ideal to admire with a glass in hand. After a sumptuous outdoor feast, you are welcome to continue your walking tour of the mountains or return to the village for a more restful afternoon.
On Friday 7th July, we will be whisking you away to La Cave des Amandiers, a mere 35-minute drive from Verbier. The ultimate educational finale, this hands-on tour will allow Members to get to grips with the vines behind the wines, all under the expert tutelage of the estate’s winemaker.
La Cave des Amandiers was founded by Alexandre Delétraz in 2008 after he acquired around 200 separate plots from 70 different owners; no small feat. Positioned on the steep slopes of Saillon, this 8ha estate is comprised of small, terraced vineyards, many of which were long abandoned. These special parcels of vines benefit from the warm winds and superior sun exposure that characterise the Valais region, as well as the heat that emanates from the dry-stone walls during the night.
It is these key elements, alongside traditional winemaking methods, that allow Alexandre to cultivate an array of grape varieties which result in wonderfully aromatic, ripe and concentrated wines.
The tour will culminate with a beautifully situated al fresco lunch (weather permitting), after which we will safely return you to Verbier mid-afternoon.
WSET Level 2 Award in Wines Qualification
The WSET Level 2 course is a beginner to intermediate-level qualification that explores wines for those working in the industry or wine and spirits lovers. This course teaches the fundamentals of wine, preparing you for the WSET Level 3 should you wish to pursue it.
The entire duration of the course is 18 hours, split across three consecutive days, starting at 10am and finishing at 5.15pm, with a one-hour lunch break and a 15-minute break at 3pm.
To gain this qualification, students need to pass a multiple-choice paper of 50 questions. The exam will take place at the end of the third day and it will last for 60 minutes. A mark of 55% is required to pass.
Upon successful completion of the exam, you will be awarded a certificate and a WSET badge. You will also be allowed to use the corresponding WSET® certification logo. For full details of the course which is run by Pur Jus Education please click here. Once you have confirmed your booking with us, you will receive a WSET form to complete and send back to Pur Jus Education for final registration.
WSET Level 1 Award in Wines Qualification
You do not need to have completed WSET Level 1 to undertake the WSET Level 2 qualification; however, if you are eager to learn the basics first, we have arranged for Alexandre to host the one-day WSET Level 1 course at the Bier Haus on Sunday 2nd July from 10am to 5.15pm, the day before the WSET Level 2 course begins. Further details on the WSET Level 1 course can be found here. The exam consists of a closed-book paper consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions.
Members can either book this course only, or as part of the week-long package.
