Wine blending masterclass with Michel Rolland – Friday 13th December
Part of our mission at 67 Pall Mall is to provide Members with access to elements of the wine world that would otherwise be off-limits. We are delighted, then, to invite Members to a one-of-a-kind, exclusive blending experience with arguably the wine world’s most famous exponent of the art.
For years, Michel Rolland has been the go-to man for blue-chip châteaux and ambitious wineries looking to add the finishing touch to their top cuvées. His standing as a master blender made him the most in-demand consultant around the world, with a string of clients that read like a Who’s Who of the wine world.
More recently he took on a ground-breaking – and, for some, controversial – project that saw him undertake perhaps the ultimate blending challenge – a Bordeaux-style, multi-continent blend. With five constituent parts, sourced from Napa Valley, Stellenbosch, Mendoza, Spain and the Right Bank of Bordeaux, his Pangaea wine puts taste above terroir.
On a Friday night in December, Michel and business partner Travis Braithwaite, the brainchild of the project, will host a blending masterclass with a difference.
In this unique experience, Members will create their own ‘world blend’ based on the five difference terroirs of Pangaea. Working with a team of five and a healthy competitive spirit, each group will be supplied with a blending kit, and Pangaea’s five component wines, and will compete to see who can craft the blend that most closely matches Michel and Travis’ 2023 vintage.
By way of inspiration, Michel and Travis will begin the evening with an outline of the project and the secrets of blending, as Members enjoy the 2016 Pangaea. With this reference point in mind, Michel and Travis will be on hand throughout to dispense tips and observations.
As the wines are reviewed, the authentic blend revealed and a winner crowned, Members will enjoy two more of Michel and Travis’ wines – the Grace Chenin Blanc-Viognier blend from South Africa and the Odyssey Malbec from Mendoza, served with canapes and a side of recriminations and ‘told-you-so’s.
Members will also have the opportunity to purchase a bottle of the 2015 Pangaea (no longer commercially available) signed by Michel and Travis.
