Situated in the far north-west corner of Italy in the shadow of Mont Blanc, the Aosta Valley is not only Italy’s most bijou wine-growing area, but also the smallest and least populous region of the country.
The Aosta Valley is a perfect example of ‘viticultura eroica’, since many of the vines are densely planted in terraces on unbelievably steep slopes. While the volume of production is modest, the quality of the wines is high and getting higher all the time.
We are delighted to let our Members in on Italy’s best-kept secret – just a decade ago, bottlings of these incredible wines were far and few between. This walkaround tasting presents an opportunity to meet several of the Aosta Valley’s top producers in person, whose best wines are now consistently recognized among the top 500 in Italy by the Gambero Rosso annual wine guide for Italy. Among them will be Les Crêtes, Lo Triolet, Ottin Vini, Cave Mont Blanc, Giorgio Anselmet and La Plantze.
Join us on Monday 19th June for the first-ever walk-around tasting of wines from this amazing alpine wine region. Taste 30 wines made from unique local varieties, regional grapes and remarkable expressions of international varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Syrah.
During the event, we will be screening a documentary centred around the Aosta Valley, produced by Club members Simon Hardy DipWSET and Jean-François Genoud.
We hope to see you there.
