The Hilt and Jonata Tasting with Matt Dees – Wednesday 26th April
On 26th April, our Marlborough Room will be given over to an evening of polished Californian swagger as we welcome the super-talented vigneron Matt Dees to the Club.
Winemaker at both The Hilt and Jonata, Matt crafts sumptuous wines from regions which are, in US terms, edgy and marginal: the region of Santa Barbara reached only 28°C last year, making it the coolest (both literally and perhaps figuratively) wine growing area in the state of California. These sites are the worst places for a grape grower but the best ones for a winemaker.
Armed with a degree in Soil Science from the University of Vermont and vintages at Staglin in Napa and Craggy Range in New Zealand, Matt has an intrinsic feel for wine, from dirt to glass. Curious, earthy and experimental by nature, his approach to winemaking is grounded in the vineyard.
The Hilt and Jonata both belong to Stan Kroenke, owner of Arsenal football club and whose other blue-chip properties include Bonneau du Martray in Burgundy and Napa Valley’s Screaming Eagle. It’s no mistake that the wines Members will have the pleasure of tasting reside alongside such eminent names, and we encourage Members to swiftly secure their tickets as availability is extremely limited.
