On April 11th, Members are exhorted to ‘bring something unusual’ to the Club for what promises to be a jovial BYOB gathering, delivered in inimitable 67 Pall Mall style.
The mandate has been issued by none other than host Neal Martin, one the world’s foremost wine writers, whose most recent book, The Complete Bordeaux Vintage Guide: 150 Years from 1870 to 2020 is the reason for our convivial convenor.
Neal rose to prominence in the early noughties via his own website, Wine-Journal, which gained an immense and loyal following. In 2006, he was hired by Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate where he would go on to be responsible for Bordeaux and Burgundy, before self-publishing his seminal, award-winning book, Pomerol, in 2012. He is currently senior editor at Vinous.
To celebrate the launch of his new book, The Complete Bordeaux Vintage Guide – one hundred and fifty years from 1970 to 2020, we invite you join Neal for a BYOB dinner in the St. James’s Room. This promises to be an entertaining evening which will include anecdotes from Neal including musical and film references which are included in his new book.
This special evening is all about the curiosities and oddities of the wine world. Neal insists he wants to be ‘challenged’, so this isn’t the time for the jewels of your collection, instead we encourage Members to bring along a bottle or vintage which puts Neal through his paces, no country or region is off limits…
Members are invited to bring a bottle (2 standard bottles, or 1 magnum) to enjoy over dinner. Why not try and challenge Neal and find a vintage that he hasn’t tasted before?
We’ll see you at dinner.
