Dinner with Bordeaux stalwart Château Haut-Bailly and its director Véronique Sanders, with wines going back to the 1980s – Wednesday 9th October

We make no apologies for the Bordeaux theme running through our autumn events schedule, with tastings and dinners covering the Médoc, St-Emilion – and, now, Pessac-Léognan. So if you missed our Brane-Cantenac soirée and can’t make the Troplong Mondot masterclass – or, perhaps, if you want to complete the set – we’re delighted to announce the final leg of the triumverate.

And what an evening it promises to be. A dazzling dinner featuring the wines of Graves Cru Classé Haut-Bailly, hosted by its popular and long-standing chatelaine Véronique Sanders, with wines going back to the 1980s.

Véronique has run the estate since 2000, taking over from her grandfather despite the château falling out of family hands. Her undemonstrative yet rigorous approach has proven perfectly suited to a property which, whether because of its relatively small production or its quintessentially classic claret style, has always been something of an insider’s choice.

As well as six vintages of the estate’s grand vin, spanning the 2023 (from barrel), standout years such as 2015 and 1996, and going all the way back to 1984, Members will have the chance to taste the two other wines made by the property. The second wine, Haut-Bailly*II, is joined by Château Le Pape, a Merlot-dominant site added to the Haut-Bailly stable in 2012 as a third wine, but which has flourished to the extent that it has since been incorporated into Haut-Bailly•II.

Don’t worry if you didn’t grasp all that right now – all this and more will be outlined on the night by the charming Véronique, accompanied by a menu conceived by our chef specially to complement the wines.

We look forward to seeing you there.

The menu:
Steak tartare
Tournedos Rossini of whole pan fried fillet, served with red wine jus and smoked bone marrow
Selection of British and French cheeses
