Colgin Cellars tasting dinner with wines going back to 2000 – Friday 8th December
Colgin Cellars stands as one of the giants of Napa Valley’s modern history – memorably chronicled by author and wine lover Jay McInerney as having progressed, in its 30-year journey, from being a cult to a classic.
We are thrilled to welcome the estate’s Danielle Aita for a rare opportunity to enjoy some of the estates’s standout wines from this century over an intimate dinner in the Marlborough Room.
The evening will encompass all four of Colgin’s wines, as well as the 2000 vintage of the no-longer-produced “Herb Lamb” cuvée. This wine, sourced from the foothills of Howell Mountain in an early signal of the estate’s drive for charm over power, was made for only 15 years, from Colgin’s inaugural vintage of 1992 to 2007.
Also tasted will be the 2006 “Tychson Hill” Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2.5ha vineyard of the same name, described by critic Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW as “taking Napa Valley elegance and grace to a whole new level”, and the 2005 vintage of the more opulent Cabernet-based blend “Cariad”, sourced from the western hillsides of Saint Helena.
Finally, to the “IX Estate” in the Pritchard Hil area of Napa, which has become the heart of Colgin since its purchase 25 years ago. Home to the hill-top winery and source of its “IX Estate” Cabernet-based blend and “IX Estate” Syrah, the site was described by critic Robert Parker as “as close to a viticultural nirvana as I have ever seen”.
