Malbec’s stratospheric, Argentina-fuelled rise over the last decade or so is hard to square with the wines that used to come out of the grape’s heartland of Cahors in southwest France which required the patience of a saint before they became vaguely approachable.
Not only has this boon played a part in transforming winemaking in Cahors, it has also led to many producers around the world placing the grape front and centre.
We are therefore delighted to invite Members to a relaxed and easy Malbec Day celebration. Your host for the evening will be our fabulous sommelier Gastón Adolfo, who will be uncorking an armful of wonderful wines, paying visits not only to the traditional and contemporary touchstones of Malbec, but also revealing curios from regions far less renowned for their take on the grape.
The wines we will be tasting:
2017 Vicentin, Blanc de Malbec, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina
2021 Bodega Noemia, J. Alberto, Patagonia, Argentina
2017 Château de Chambert, Grand Vin, Cahors, France
2018 Vasse Felix, Malbec, Margaret River, Australia
2016 Tenuta Sette Cieli, Malbec, Tuscany, Italy
2014 Gülor Öküzgözü, Malbec, Turkey
2010 Familia Zuccardi ‘Zuccardi Q’ Malbec
