Brunello Ten-Years-On masterclass and walkaround tasting with Honest Grapes – Tuesday 24th October

With Bordeaux, Burgundy and Barolo prices continuing to rise, Montalcino is one of the remaining fine wine regions that could still be said to offer great value for money.

This is particularly impressive given the strict self-selection imposed by top growers, who skip whole vintages if the quality is deemed insufficient (one struggles to imagine this happening in Bordeaux…)

Then there is the requirement to age Brunello for at least four years (five for Riservas) before offering the wines for sale, meaning new releases are much closer to being ready to drink when shipped. And reviews tend to be of finised wines, allowing for a more complete appraisal than the en primeur tastings in Burgundy and Bordeaux, the latter taking place from barrel a scant six months after harvest.

Join Honest Grapes wine director and 67 Club Member Tom Harrow for a tasting showcasing examples from the excellent but under-the-radar 2013 vintage, which is drinking well now, with excellent potential for aging…

The masterclass will feature 2013s (including Riservas and single vineyard wines) from eight growers that show Montalcino’s sub-regional and stylistic diversity. After the seated masterclass, a small selection of other 2013s from the same estates will be available to taste.

Kindly note that the Masterclass will begin promptly at 6.30pm due to the extended nature of the evening.

The wines we will be tasting:

Castello Romitorio, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2013 (from magnum)
