Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana: leading the Sherry Revolution

We are delighted to welcome 8th generation winemaker, Fermin Hidalgo who will take us on an exploration of what makes Hidalgo stand out from the crowd.

Established in 1792, they are the third oldest Sherry house in the world and the oldest to be still owned by the original establishing family. Long embedded into Spanish history, Hidalgo La Gitana is also the 9th oldest company across all of Spain’s industries.

Fermin Hidalgo will take you through the history, the unique production processes to create the individual sherry styles, the power of oxidation, the mysteries of the flor, the art of the solera and the influence of the area around the beautiful town of Sanlucar de Barrameda.

You will discover two of the best prize Manzanillas in the World. A classic Manzanilla: La Gitana, and a raw Manzanilla: La Gitana en Rama, including the background behind the most iconic label – the gypsy tambourine lady!

We will travel from the naturally dry to the naturally sweet sherry, exploring the differences between Oloroso, Amontillado, Palo Cortado and Pedro Ximenez, from the very old Sherry to the very old rare Sherry range. Wines which are between 50 and 70 years old – authentic jewels!
