masterclass dinner
Producing a Grand Vin that reflects its terroir is a relatively simple concept, but its crafting implementation requires patience and humility. Self-made vigneron, Nicolas Thienpont has a sensitive approach to viticulture based on an intimate understanding of the terroirs. He strives to record his achievements in respect of the tradition inherited from his family, and the desire to innovate. Since 1995, the owners of Grand Cru vineyards have been seeking his knowledge and expertise to give their vineyards a new impetus…

The vinous story began at Château Puygueraud where Nicolas grew up. He had not intended to become a winegrower and was educated in law and philosophy, however the beckoning of the vines had diverted him from this career trajectory. In the 1980’s, Nicolas took over the helm of the château, worked hard to increase the quality of the wine and in less than a decade, he participated in bringing the spotlight on this otherwise unknown property and on the small appellation of Côtes-de-Francs.
Nicolas proceeded to manage high-level estates in Saint-Émilion, and became the winemaker for Châteaux Pavie Macquin, Larcis Ducasse and Beauséjour Duffau Lagarrosse – three Premiers Grand Cru Classé.
It is an honour to welcome Nicolas Thienpont, his son Cyrille and his business partner David Suire, to guide Members through a Masterclass dinner of these superb Bordeaux expressions.
