About Tony Milanowski:
Tony Milanowski is the winery manager at Rathfinny Wine Estate. Originally from Australia, Tony started his winemaking career by completing a Graduate Diploma at the University of Adelaide at Roseworthy and Waite campuses. Upon graduation, he worked as a winemaker with some of Australia largest wineries in the Riverland, before moving to the smaller iconic Katnook Estate in Coonawarra. After many successful vintages, he relocated to Europe to work in the Abruzzo region of Italy before then taking up the oenology lecturing role at Plumpton College. During his 12 years at Plumpton College taught MSc, BSc and FdSc students as well as the UK wine industry through the WineSkills programme. In 2019 he left Plumpton to return to the industry and become involved in the production of English Sparkling wine at Rathfinny Wine Estate.
About the evening:
Ever wanted to know the difference between a wine fault and a wine taint, or how sulphite differs from sulphide, and how Brettanomyces, Volatile Acidity, Light Strike, ‘TCA’ and Oxygen can afflict a wine? Tony will reveal all in a series of wines, all the same, but spiked with a series of compounds to replicate persistent winemaking problems and disasters. As well as a control wine, each taster will receive 7 further identical samples and 7 little capsules for you to administer the relevant vinous failings. To complement Tony’s entertaining approach to wine chemistry, Demetri Walters MW will be on hand to assess how each of these wine-related sob stories affect today’s wine industry as well as ruining consumer enjoyment of their chosen wine. Chemistry was never this fun!
